I just heard the reports of the fires. I'm so sad. I can't remember where you both reside but I hope you and yours are all safely away from them.

Thanks for your concern! The fires are terrible aren't they; I can hardly believe it. I am on the other side of Australia, in the West, so I am fine, as are my family and friends. My neighbour is worried about her parents though - they are on a farm with no phone so she just doesn't know

I am fairly sure that Tam is in Sydney, a different state to where the worst fires are. Hopefully she will chime in soon, though I think she doen'st get on much in the week with her long working hours in medicine.

I am SO glad to hear that your area has been sparred of the fires Anne and probably Tam's too. Fires are really scary.

Oh guys, thanks for your concern. Its terrible isn't it? I feel kind of sick that I was out shopping when a lot of it was happening. There was one small bushfire in the national park close to us yesterday, but it was put out very soon.

For those that don't know here is what is going on:

Every couple of years there are terrible fires like this somewhere. My parents house got evacuated a few years ago but they were fine. It's sickening to think these are often deliberately lit. Apparently murder charges are going to be laid.

I'm so glad you two are okay. My thoughts are with everyone involved. I lived in San Diego for several years and the fires are so scary and traumatic.

But this is the worst bushfire in Australian history and it is very sobering

I'm so glad to hear that you're both well away from the fires. When I studied in Australia, I lived in Melbourne and traveled around the surrounding countryside a bit. It was so beautiful. I can see how it would be a tinderbox, especially in a drought. It makes me so mad to think that people would intentionally set any of these fires. It seems to be the case too often here in California when we have fires, too. My heart goes out to the good people of Victoria.
