Ann Taylor Loft Wrap Dress: Will it shrink?

Hi all!

I'm a first-time poster and a long-time lurker. You all have such spot-on advice and YLF is my daily addiction and it's an addiction I don't plan to give up!

I have a question about this dress, or other experiences with this fabric content.

I've been eyeing it ever since they made a similar version for Summer '08. Now this version is on sale and I think it's time to buy. My only reservation is the fabric content : 97% cotton/3% spandex. Will it shrink? I tried on a size 4 in the store and it fit great. Should I size up to a 6? Does anyone own this dress or one with a similar fabric content? Thanks, all!

I do not own this dress or any AT dresses, just an opinion here. This is the same fiber content as my premium jeans which I wash in warm water then hang to dry, no shrinkage. AT has great quality, as you know i'm sure. I would not expect this dress to shrink if you line dry it.
So cute too!!!!

Thanks, san! I've only just started purchasing items from Ann Taylor. I have a beautiful sweater dress from AT and have am glad the quality stands up to AT's reputation.

I'm a fabric care fanatic, so take my advice with a grain of salt.

Cotton with spandex is a funny fabric. You'd think you could machine wash it, but the spandex acts up in the machine, even on a cold-water setting. Even if you don't get shrinkage, you get puckering and eventually fading, especially in a black fabric.

To keep it looking new and fresh, I'd recommend spot-cleaning with baby wipes (which have a very mild detergent), squirting it with a fabric refresher if it gets a little musty, and as a last resort, taking it to the dry cleaner.

That’s a gorgeous dress. I’d take it to the cleaners. It should not shrink.

That is a gorgeous dress. I would also recommend sticking to dry cleaning it.

I would go with Angie...this isn't actually made by AT .....it is a *Trulli* dress made for ATLoft, also it has a significant amount of cotton in it...I say dry clean also if you worry about shrinkage:)

Thanks for the welcome and advice! I think I will stick with dry cleaning it as Angie, Tanya and Taylor have suggested. Thanks, garmenta. I may have to use those nifty tricks between trips to the cleaners!
