Ankle pants on Already Pretty.

Am curious about the third alteration in this post. The unaltered pants seem like a pretty poison-eye look. Did the alteration fix it? Am still trying to figure out the whole sweet spot for ankle length pants.

You know, I looked at those pants for a bit as well trying to decide if I liked them and, *ducking if Angie's around* I don't mind them as long as the pant leg is tapered. Untapered, to my eye, screams dowdy, while the tapered leg looks sort of Audrey Hepburnish--a woman who could never look even remotely dowdy.

I was actually fascinated by these pictures because I really think they show how even taking in a small amount of fabric in the right place can have a huge difference in the overall appearance of an item.

The pants seem to be much more modern and flattering with the bit of tapering at the ankle. I *think* that might be the kind of fit Angie is ok with, but I'm not sure.

I think that the skinnier shape and the high heel she wears them with (both times) make a huge difference for this shape. It would be much less figure flattering with a flat. Even less so if it was still un-tapered. But adding in the tapering and high heel nudge it into an acceptable range. My prediction is that Angie will say that the tapering and heel let this one work okay, but they involve a bit of figure flattery compromise. It would be an even more figure flattering at a shorter length.

Ankle length is about all I see in the stores this season...they are everywhere. Angie doesn't like them?

I don't either, but that's more because of shoe issues. I really thought they were the big trend.

Hm the alteration is a marked improvement, but I would like to see them another inch or two shorter still. This length is a bit of figure flattery sacrifice for fashion trends. I have similar shaped pants that I need to get tapered which will probably hit me right where hers do, but they have a zipper so I won't be able to make them any shorter unfortunately. They work alright for Miss AP because of the pumps and amount of exposed skin.

I think I simply have a poison-eye for ankle pants. Yes, the tapered look is better, but my mind keeps telling me they are too short. Somehow it almost never looks intentional to me when pants are that length, even though I know that, to the wearer, they probably are. I just can't.

I think those pants are quite unflattering in the pre-alteration photo, and better, but still somewhat unflattering, in the post-alteration photo. Here's why: Sally's figure, while of course fabulous, is nonetheless unsuited to cropped, loud, hectically-patterned pants. The length of the pants would make any leg look shorter, and the pattern would make any leg look wider. So really, the only gal who could truly pull those off would have to be quite tall and thin, and wearing high heels (which Sally is doing, but it's still not enough).

I'm not saying that cropped pants are evil or anything. I wear them myself, and as you know, I'm super short. A high heel helps. I bet, if Sally were wearing those exact pants but in a subdued dark wash denim, it would look pretty good.

To be perfectly honest, I think they look better ON HER before the alterations. The skinnier pant isn't doing her hips any favors.

I completely agree that the tapering makes it. A wide pant leg makes it look as if she has outgrown the pants. Tapering it, IMO, makes it seem much more deliberate.

I actually like them better before but can tell that the after will look more current/deliberate to most. I don't find either version to be unflattering but perhaps because I am a hippy girl with some degree of self-acceptance... it's my shape and I'm not pretending otherwise.

I have a pair of wide-legged capris that I'm looking forward to for summer! I know I know...and I love 'em

My initial reaction was Wow! what a difference! The altered pants look so much better!
But then, reading the comments here and taking another look, I do wonder if they might look better a couple of inches shorter. I suspect that's what Angie would prefer.
And I think there's too much room in the upper thigh area--I'd like to see that line streamlined by taking in a little on each side seam.
I think Sally carries off this style beautifully, though, with the pumps and the plain black top at just the right length.
I'm still pretty confused about ankle-length and cropped pants, too. I hate to just completely write off a style, especially one that I have admired so much on other women (okay, yes, I guess models and women built like models).

Totally agree with Gaylene that the before and after are very impressive shows of tailoring. I think the after is a big improvement, and see the Audrey Hepburn thing. I would probably go shorter but I am not wearing them!

The alteration definitely improves the trousers but they still look too short to me. Something is still a bit "off".

Wen I first looked at the photos, I thought "wow, the tapering does make them look loads better." But then I went back and looked again.....I see what you all mean. Shortening them would probably look better. Having said that, she does look pretty good in this print!

I so struggle with this PPL! I liked them yesterday when I saw the post. Today, I still like them but wonder if shortening a bit would have been more flattering.

I think she's on the right track, but I think they should be shorter. Shorter would be spot-on Hepburn, and it would showcase whatever interesting-looking tattoo is peeping out at the current hemline. The colors look like it would go, and in a sense, that tattoo would be a unique, one-of-a-kind accessory.

Thank you Raisin and K for speaking correctly on my behalf about cropped pants styles that look the most flattering to my eye. I am with Aida and Dana. A little shorter on the tapered version would be even more flattering. I am PEDANTIC about lengths. Or they need to be full length with a bit of scrunch.

I like the pants and find them very unflattering before the alteration. My personal preference would be for them to be about 1 to 1.5 inches longer so that sit just below the ankle bone. I am quite enjoying that type of crop length (with heels)

While there is no doubt that the alteration makes the pants much better, I would also prefer them to be a bit shorter. The original style was poison eye, the altered style is just... not perfect.

I'm with Firecracker--what I noticed was the extra material in the thigh.
