I think those pants are quite unflattering in the pre-alteration photo, and better, but still somewhat unflattering, in the post-alteration photo. Here's why: Sally's figure, while of course fabulous, is nonetheless unsuited to cropped, loud, hectically-patterned pants. The length of the pants would make any leg look shorter, and the pattern would make any leg look wider. So really, the only gal who could truly pull those off would have to be quite tall and thin, and wearing high heels (which Sally is doing, but it's still not enough).
I'm not saying that cropped pants are evil or anything. I wear them myself, and as you know, I'm super short. A high heel helps. I bet, if Sally were wearing those exact pants but in a subdued dark wash denim, it would look pretty good.
