Hi, I know I've not been around the last month or so, but hopefully I will be more active when I send my elder son off to special college (he has Down Syndrome, and a part of me is dreading not having him home, while the other part of me knows that he will learn so much from being away), and I have a bit more time.

Anyway, I love animal print, and am delighted it's very 'now' - although I worry about wearing it as I feel like I might look a bit too 'old' to be wearing it. I spotted these boots at Clarks online (UK) http://www.clarks.co.uk/find/p.....s-20348949 and before I ordered, I wondered if I could have some feedback? I would wear them with jeans, I think, so there would just be a little flash of leopard showing.

LOVE them. Ankle boots can be a bit challenging to style. I think your idea of wearing them with jeans is a nice one.

Congratulations on sending your son off to college. I know it is an important and challenging time for both of you. It will be so hard at first. Try not to call him every day. Give him a little space to grow into a more independant young man making his own decisions. Can you make a deal with him - have him call or skype you at least 2x a week or you'll be forced to go there to check in on him in person ... hang in there mama, it will be great for both of you.

Ok, that's a pair of boots ordered, then! Thank you, everyone.

To clarify, when I said I would feel old, what I meant was that I am 47 (I don't think I look it, but maybe I'm kidding myself lol) and I wondered if wearing something considered young and 'on trend' would make me look what we call in the UK mutton dressed as lamb (not sure if you have that phrase in the US?!). But it's only a little bit of leopard, and I do love them, so I will order them and maybe post a picture for comment.

modgrl - my son can't talk on the phone - he just doesn't understand that it's a person on the other end - and the college say not to call for 2 to 3 weeks (yikes!) until his keyworker says he's settling in. We will be using Skype, so he can see us (and the cat, he will miss the cat!). I am sure he will be fine, I think we will be worse!

Cute boots *sad sigh* I wobble around on kitten heels and my heels get sore so I'd love to see you rocking these, peeking out from under jeans sounds like a great introduction x

Wow - those are fab shoes! I hope you order them and give them a whirl. It's your duty to stay current and those are perfectly current for a 40-something (or 50- or 60- , etc.) woman.

Best wishes for you and for your son. It's a big adjustment anytime, but hopefully he'll have a good support system for his adjustments, and you have one too

Love the booties, must get! Having something new like this to style and work into your wardrobe is good therapy. What a great opportunity for your son, always a mixed blessing when we send our kids out into the world. Wishing you both good luck!

Louise - I may be wobbly on kitten heels, too, I will have to see how I am when they arrive!

RoseandJoan - I think that look, with the leggings, is fabulous, but I can never work out what sort of top I should wear with leggings, and I have curvy legs (have just been reading Imogen's advice on where to end a tunic) and am busty with not much space between chin and boobs, so need more of an open neck. I might give it a go if the boots are ok!

We took my son to college yesterday - I am feeling very tear-y today, and missing him so much, but I'm trying to keep busy. Thank you so much for all your good wishes x

Oh, these look fun! I am a young looking 53 (or so I tell myself!) and and I would definitely wear them. You will look great in them! I have been wearing a pair of kitten heels around for the past 3 days and found them perfectly acceptable. No terrible wobble.

Best wishes to your son and best wishes to YOU on this transitional time. It must be so hard to see him go and yet it is wonderful that he is in a place where people will be able to help him learn at his own pace. That is a gift to any parent and no doubt you have worked VERY hard for this.
