Fascinating.

It does seem a bit like the photographer was going out of his way to show people looking bad, though. Smoking isn't really an attractive habit, but catching people mid-puff is a bit unfair.

I agree with Stringy - I was wondering if the photographer was paid to find the worst in everybody...

But still, I did giggle hilariously and have forwarded the link to a friend that I often go to the races with as she takes her racewear VERY seriously and will probably die of shock when she sees it!

I thought it was hilarious that they had a "fashion doctor tent" thingy!

I don't understand this. Were they trying to be funny and make fun of the whole fashion thing? Each outfit is a bit over the top. My favorite is the polka dot dress with the heart window in the front and head masterpiece!

I actually lived in Liverpool (where the racecourse is) at one point and can confirm there is a sub section of the population that dresses in this way on a regular basis. I like to think of it as the 'Pamela Anderson School of Glam' but there are also many more ladies from the city who dress in a more reserved chic way.

In contrast to Ascot whose strict dress code leaves little room for imagination Aintree certainly bring out the eccentric and fun approach to dressing. Having now defended Liverpool I have to say the photographs posted still leave me speechless.

I'm glad I looked at those pictures at 2 a.m. (I was battling insomnia and it was winning) when the kids were asleep. A couple of those outfits elicited an out loud WTF (except not just the initials). I just couldn't stop it.

Oh Julie, some of those photos are shocking! From what I have seen from the Galway Races in Ireland, some people definitely subscribe to the 'more is more' mentality. The race day hats are crazy, I have seen some mental headwear at the races.

Colleen Rooney looks so much sophisicated though!

Some of those ladies weren't ladies. And I mean that in all sorts of ways.

Assuming this is just for the races, I think it's kind of fun. My (lack of) cleavage wouldn't stand a chance at that event, I'd have to emphasize my back or something like that.

I'm voting for deliberate fashion spectacle. They *must* know, surely? I just feel better about it all if they're deliberately trying to flout the 'rules' and people who look down on trashy styles than if they innocently decided that eye-gouging brights and low-low-cuts were the way to look good.

I would *so* participate and wear something completely over-the-top!

What made me go, "yikes!" is the shoes ... on the grass! I had to do the spike-heel-on-grass at lots of parties when I lived in Jamaica and it was absolute, pure torture. It was also dangerous!

Yes, I also think the look is deliberate, my younger Sister used to be a sunbed addict, she was unable to see her skin was orange and not the brown she imagined. She would wear brighter colours and lighten her hair to show off the tan.
