Angie--- Frye harness boot question

I know it is not really boot season but I would like to get some Frye Harness boots for later and wondered a couple things:

If I don't have any brown ankle boots AND if I am 5ft 6.5 with long legs

Do you think I should get the 8 inch tall ones or the 12 inch? Which do you see as more versatile with bootcuts and skinnies?

I am thinking of getting the chestnut because my hair is dark brown but black is totally a mainstay in my wardrobe too.

One of the reasons I want them now is because they are wonderful to wear to our county fair in August where it is dusty and dirty!

I re-read your post on rugged ankle boots but just wondered if the taller ones would look better? But because I have no ankle boots------maybe they would be fun? And lighter feeling?

Hi Debbie! I am in for a pair of Frye harness boots this fall too. For you I would go with the taller option in the dark brown. I like them so much in that color. In fact I am probably looking at the same pair. Do they ever go on sale?

Boot season is virtually upon us, Debbie! The NAS sale will be FULL of boots so it’s good that you are thinking about this now. I too love the look of Fryes but have not found a comfy pair yet.

Good question about the lengths. Do you intend wearing them OVER skinnies or UNDER boot cuts?

Laura is this the one you are considering too? They call it tan---Zappos has a chestnut but it seems like more of a reddish color.

My hair is dark brown---yours too Laura, right?

I have heard you have to size down in these.

Yes, that's the color I was considering, too.

My only hesitation is that I don't wear much brown or earth tones, so maybe I should go with another shade. (I think there's a Frye website with more colors than Nordstrom offers). Do you wear much brown?

This "brown rage" might be a good color because you could wear it with black:

It seems like there aren't a lot of colors out at the moment. I remember they had a slate grey color and a lot more last fall. Maybe we need to wait a little longer?

I hardly ever wear brown or earth tones but was thinking (and maybe thinking incorrectly) that dark brown would look good when wearing black on top because I wear lots of black.

And I was trying to have a pair of boots that match my hair? An I love the look of the dark brown boots.

As you can tell I am pretty confused! LOL

Laura Thanks for the link to "brown rage"---now, that color is REALLY out of my comfort zone but I see what you mean about looking good with black.

Edited to add: (Actually I already have a pair of tall suede boots that are the same color as the brown rage Frye.) A stylish friend of mine talked me into that color and they are wonderful but a little out of my comfort zone--But they do look good with black.

I actually don't love the black frye harness but probably once they were worn in a bit I might like the look better.

I have the frye 8" dark brown harness boot, i've had them for a couple of years.

I only wear mine under jeans and think they are too short to wear over pants/leggings. They are perfect for the county fair in the dust, but if you want them versatile for over the pant legs go with the longer version, 12".

The brown rage is cool, but keep in mind that the dark brown will show wear and become more rugged looking with time and given the situations you wear them in (mine are definitely my outdoor/inclement weather shoes). I'm not sure how the brown rage will age, but my dark brown pair looks nice.

Debbie, I’d love to offer the best solution, but the comfort issue is a personal thing. I would never wear 12 inch harness boots under my boot cut jeans because it would feel uncomfy. They also seem too short to wear over skinnies and you are taller than me I think?

You need to order them, test them and see if they work for you. Sorry I can’t be more helpful.

I have taller Frye harness boots and they are super comfortable. I have a size 7 and I usually wear a 7 1/2. I occasionally tuck them into skinnies, but do have 1 pair of boot cut pants that I can wear them with. It all depends on the jeans - but I would say that you need to try them out.
