Angie and Kyle: washing the AT halter

Angie, Kyle or anyone else who bought the AT halter top that Angie had featured on her blog. I accidentally washed it in a cold cycle in my washing machine and then noticed that it was supposed to be dry cleaned. It's a rayon top. It seems ok, I hung it to dry. Do you guys dry clean it - I'm wondering if I can get away with just washing it in the machine next times too? Thanks.

I read this as "worshiping at the alter." I need to stop speed reading. That or drink more tea.

Rayon is a notoriously finicky fabric that does unpredictable things when it comes in contact with water. If your top made it through the wash this time, you can try to duplicate what you did this time for the next wash, but be warned that it might randomly stretch out or pill or do something weird even if you've washed it many times in the same fashion. That is just the nature of rayon.

chuckling @dresslover. I do worship my new AT halter tops. I have three of them. I had them all altered to fit and it was worth it.

Sihaya, I hand wash the patterned one in the machine in cold water and hang dry - perfect.

I have done both dry clean and hand wash the drapey black and red versions. I prefer the results of the dry cleaning by far. And it saves my sore arms and hands. I do bat for Team Polished and not RATE, so I like these tops to look pristine.

Great question, Sihaya, I just got the patterned one too.

I had trouble with a Talbot rayon knit striped top shrinking and twisting from cold water handwashing, so I was wondering about this AT top.

My philosophy is that if it makes it through the treatment once, you should be good to repeat. I never had bad experience so far. Usually I am extra careful in the beginning with new things but over time become more relaxed about it and experiment.

Thank you everyone for your responses. My washer doesn't have an agitator so it's extra gentle and the equivalent of hand washing. If I'm in town and near my dry cleaner, I will give it a try that way once. Otherwise, I might cautiously just proceed with the way it was washed the first time.
