Angie and all:Too Old for Patent OTK boots??

So I chased down these Stuart Weitzman Fifo boots on sale. With Nordstrom Price Matching, I got them for $318, half price of the original.

Only the black patent were on sale. I have an old pair of Jimmy Choo (consignment) black patent boots that I feel were out of date so I upgraded to these.

BUT NOW I have read on several blogs today that one should AVOID black patent boots after a certain age so as not to look like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman!!! Some bloggers felt they were too garish in the patent.Hmpff.

I don't know what I think!!! Should I pay full price and get the suede pair instead?

Look at the heel. I don't think they are hookerish at all. I tried them at home today with black jeans, skirted leggings, or dark denim jeans, all with the same "Emmanuelle Alt" style on top--a menswear shirt with a blazer.

I guess I can take these back and pay full price for the suede pair.

What would you do???

My thumbs are, up, up, up. These SW patent boots are almost flat and with a classic riding boot integrity. Stylish at any age. xo

By the way, does anyone know, are OTK boots easier to fit than knee high?

Boy they got my style insecurities going though Angie. I will have to pay DOUBLE the price for the suede. If I am going to do that then I will try a whole different style in SW, maybe a higher heel.

I have more caution, but think you are ideal to pull this off. The OTK + patent does create a certain vibe. I tend to think in terms of softening/casualizing that down some, but that may not be your approach. Sporty or slouchy items, more soft or wooly textures to contrast with the patent, not much other shine in the outfit. Or at least classic, "classy" styles and fabrics.

Do you think that is too formulaic and restrictive? I'm not a tall-boot person (yet), so I'm really out of my league ((:) But I am a patent-leather shoe magpie.

What outfits had you targeted for these?

I think the boots you showed will look fab on you and the price is great, plus they have Angie's blessing. Of course, you have to be comfortable to keep them.

These are gorgeous--and I don't usually like patent leather. I don't find them too garish or vulgar at all. The matte fabric on the back helps, so does the blocky low heel. Would you mind sharing photos of you wearing them? I think that might give us a better idea if you're still undecided and want more feedback...

Okay I didn't really "style them up" very well here and my hair is yikes because in the middle of cooking dinner. But you get the idea.

update: These pics do no good, too dark and you cannot even see where the boot ends and my pants begin.

2 thumbs up from me. There is no way a lower block heel is entering into Pretty Woman territory. No way at all. It's classic 60's and 70's styling - so hot right now! I think if you wear them with classic pieces - jeans, black leggings, a simple dress or skirt etc - these will owe you nothing . You'll be wearing them forever! Great price too

Love those boots! Not hooker-ish at all. I would think a consideration might be whether one's coloring would be dramatic enough for one to carry off that much shiny black. No problem with blonde you!

All ages should avoid wearing these with a Pretty Woman mini dress. And all ages should aspire to look as chic as you in those fantabulous boots! I think the very low heel looks kind of proper British militant. Very cool...

I'm with lisap. The heel takes this squarely out of hookerland. These are awesome, not age inappropriate at all. I hope you keep them and enjoy them!

karymk, I have NEVER seen you post an inappropriate outfit, ever, even when its components are things I would never have imagined pairing together. These boots are completely in how you choose to wear them, and I have absolutely no doubt that you will make some fab looks with these. These are NOT Pretty Woman boots.

Great boots, great price! They are over-the-knee but not mid-thigh-high, and are practically modest!!! I have similar in black leather (not patent). Enjoy!
