Angie and All: Correct Fit of Knit Tube Skirt?

I love the black and white graphic quality of this skirt, but am not sure what size to order. From past experience, skirts in XS fit me perfectly at the waist, but snug and bunch in the hips when I move. If I go up to S, the waist will be loose, but fit everywhere else and shift when I move. How much do knit skirts stretch out during subsequent wearings, and how do you all assess the correct fit of knit skirts? I appreciate your tips and suggestions!

I can't speak for that particular skirt, but I seem to remember Transcona Shannon trying it -- maybe she can give you specifics.

In general, though, I tend to either wear my standard size or size up a bit in knit skirts because I don't want them clingy. However, there are two considerations that make this the best solution for me: 1) I have a short waist, so I end up just wearing the skirt a little lower so the waist isn't so big on me, plus this makes it easy to do a semi-tuck. 2) I have big hips and saddlebags so I really dislike anything that fits too tightly in that area of my body.

My Vince Camuto tube skirts and my knit Bobeau skirts don't bag out at all -- they stretch and give with movement, but they look fine at the end of the day.

I think it all depends on the type of knit. I have actually bought knit sweater dresses that use such a tight weave that they hardly stretch out at all and I have had some that have a lot of flex. Best to see what type of weave it is in store before you buy. If it seems like a dense knit, then chances are, the stretch is minimal. Good luck!

Have you tried a variety of different tube skirts, by different designers? If you have tried only a few designers, maybe those designers aren't the best ones for your body. I'm wondering if there is a different designer who perhaps makes skirts with a larger waist relative to the hips, so you wouldn't have a problem. In my experience overall, I think that Loft tends to have larger waists in comparison to hips, but I haven't tried any of their tube skirts and so can't say for sure how they would fit.

The skirt you are showing is very nice and it has a nice sturdy fabric. I tried it in my size but it is too bodycon for my liking so I ordered one size up. I hope the waist is not too big but if it is I can wear it below the waist. We shall see when it arrives.
Good luck with your skirt. I think once the size is right the skirt will provide plenty of good wear.

Janet and Angie, thanks for your response! According to the Tildon size chart on the product info page, I should order a XS going by the waist measurement, but order a S if going by the hip measurement. So that's where it gets confusing. I read somewhere that you should always fit the larger part of your body. If so, then perhaps Small is the way to go?

Gigi, I have not tried knitted tube skirts by other designers but shall try it. Hopefully the fabric of the Tildon skirt is substantial and the sides are tapered enough so that it will not shift around when I stride.

Joyce, good luck with your skirt, too! Would love to know how sizing up works out. The black and white color palette goes with everything, and the mismatched dots are unique. I see a lot of potential with this piece and it will go with many things that I already own!
