Ihave lived in Seattle (this stint) for the past five years. Every summer without fail I'd buy a cute new pair of sandals because I love sandals and summer. But summers in Seattle are short, very short. So this year I resisted the siren call of new sandals. Ironically enough we having actually having a nice summer, but I don't have enough free time to wear them.
So yeah I can be a bit thicked headed at times, but you are right and I'm glad I realized it finally.

I'm in the midst of my own possible sandal epiphany (a bit undecided still). It's great that you came to this realization. Better late than never. Sometimes we just don't want to know, right?

I know your pain this. I love sandals. Love them! And I have too many of them. :(. But, I still bought a new pair this year. I do get to wear them more though as I work in an office. Still, 12 pair in Wisconsin is a bit much.

Yes! Every 5 years we have a few hotter days in Summer. Like this Summer. But we are back in boots in Sept without fail.

I succumb to the lure of sandals every year, too. This year, I have already succumbed 3 times and if I get my way (and find what I want) I might even buy a fourth! I do wear them, but only for 3 months.

But, using girl math, I have persuaded myself that I really did need that many sandals, which only proves I need exponentially more booties come fall!

In all seriousness, I have really similar feeling about Angie's dictum: Dress for the life you have. Put your money on clothes you'll wear the most.

For you, that would be fab day-off and opera wear (and probably some hiking gear, too) and stuff for going out.

For me, that's jeans, which is why I feel as if my pricey True Religions were actually money well spent.

I think it took me about five years to learn to shop for my dominant season, too. I just embrace the learning process. Great job on resisting buying more sandals!

Good job! On my side, I didn't buy any ballet flats or loafers this Spring... springs are almost nonexistent where I live, so I mostly need booties and sandals.

I'm still learning not to look at 'I work in quite a posh office' dresses ('cos I don't. I never have!) and formal outfits. But realised last summer that I need a big summer at the beach casual capsule. And boots too of course. Always boots.

My problem right now is I'm so used to my closed toes shoes I literally forgot today that I could wear my new cage sandals and went with pumps. But we're hitting 80F tomorrow, so it's sandals for the rest of the week

Good for you for realizing that, anna! I had this revelation last year and still bought a pair of nude and a pair of red sandals. Like you, I LOVE SANDALS! and have enough of them to easily take me through our sadly short summers. So this year, I am not buying any and am actually okay with this decision. Like Suz said, I would rather save money to spend on boots/booties. Oh wait! I just ordered a pair of nude pumps which are only summer footwear for me. DARN!

I also usually fall prey to sandal fever. But we only get about 3 months of sandal wearing weather and I am often cold, so a show with a sock works better for me. I haven't purchased any sandals this year and it's been working just fine. (I own one pair of sandals and one pair of flip flops). What I did purchase this season was a light color, fashion sneaker and that has gotten a workout.

I can sympathise on that one Anna, I am in Brissy (QLD) which is sub-tropical
weather. It is winter right where we get maybe 6-8 weeks if we're lucky of what
we call "cold" weather, I'm talking about overnight lows of 2c/35f and highs of
18c/64f. I have a very minimal amount of items that I can wear only at this time
of the year. I have 2 ankle boots & 2 heavier weight jackets and I
complement my lighter weight long sleeve T's and blouses by layering up with
cami's and big fat scarves. I often lust over all those big thick wooly jumpers,
jackets and rain boots but now I have learned to just admire them from afar.
It's so hard but I have very valuable real estate space in my wardrobe for other
items I can get more wear from for the rest of the year.
