now that Portugal has been knocked out of the World Cup soccer finals. They lost to Spain. SIGH. I have nothing against Spain, I would, in fact, love to visit several cities in Spain.

From a fashion point of view, the Portuguese uniforms are superior ( As they were 4 years ago.) From a playing point of view, the Spaniards outplayed them.

My husband tried to comfort me by saying, " I know. This is like the World Series AND the Super Bowl wrapped into one for your people. "

I responded, " Not really....in your " world " games, the Americans always win ! "

So sorry... That sucks.

BUT, I also have to correct one small point. The US has lost to Canada in "The World Series" (more than once) ; )

Soccer can be so emotionally draining. I find it is either boring or way intense. A strange sport.

Oh, I really do understand how you feel Isabel. Let me try to make you feel just a teeny-tiny bit better: my husband's an Englishman.

PS: And even he was saying Portugal had a really rough draw - I mean Brazil AND Spain one after the other (well, pretty much, hey?) - that's just plain mean! He started ranting about how there should have been some sort of "seeding" so that they wouldn't have to play off against each other until at least the quarters. <Snore!> Oooops, sorry - at that point I nodded off as I had to get up at 4.30am to watch the game.....

Who do you hope wins now? (I can't decide between Argentina or Brazil. In no way will I go for Germany, after they humiliated both England and Australia!)

Scarlet, you are so right. I feel like I am going to faint or something when I watch. I don't feel that way about any other sport.

Laura - I won't hold it against you...they are cute.

Rute, you cracked me up. I will have to tell that to my dad , " They were always invading us, now this ! " I love it ! And yes, it some how makes it more interesting to watch a bunch of sweaty good-looking men that speak your language.

Katie - yeah, so much is skill, sometimes it is a little luck...but as we try to tell our kids, " you get what you get, and don't get upset " Though I am upset. What a stupid saying : ) I am so happy your hubby understands so deeply - he must be a good man !

I would love to see Ghana win. I know that will not happen. But to have an African country win while the games are on the African continent for the first time would be really wonderful. With that said, I really like Argentina too. Though at this point, it is great to just see really good soccer.

I thought it was funny your DH said "your people." Kind of like he's from one planet and you from another. It's nice that he can try to relate to the importance ~ the all-encompassing HUGENESS ~ of the World Cup.
