I actually took everything out this morning to take pictures, so you get to see everything besides loungewear, sportswear, sleepwear, underwear, socks and tights and layering tops. And I've included only those scarves, shoes and 'bags' that get the most wear (by far!).
I'm going to post my favourite pieces first, with some explanations. Then the rest that I still need but that isn't quite right in one way or the other. This will be LONG with lots of pictures, so thank you in advance if you are going to stay with me until the end. I thought about splitting it up to make it easier to look at, but I think that's not practical for the analysis.
#1-#34 are the pieces that work, that fit, that I like and that I wear most often. #34-#44 is the rest.
PANTS (1-4)
The only pair of pants I love that aren't jeans are the blue cords in #3. And they look like jeans! The bootcuts in #4 get mostly worn in spring and summer. They're ancient (one of the few pre-YLF items in my wardrobe).
SKIRTS (5-6)
I can't believe I'm down to two skirts. I don't have the full plaid skirt in here because I feel it's much more difficult to make that one work. I prefer this one, it's more flattering too. I don't really have a workhorse summer skirt.
PULLOVERS (7-11)
#7-#9 work best with skirts, they are quite short. #10 and #11 work best with pants. I also have the striped sweater in #9 with green stripes, but I don't wear that one much. This one gets all the wear.
CARDIGANS
All three in #12. This includes my two new ones.
BUTTON-DOWNS (13-15)
#13 is an old favourite, best with pants or knotted in the waist with skirts. #14 is very thin material and gets mostly worn with rolled arms. I like the high-low hem in #15, the color and the breezy fabric.
TEES AND TANKS (17-21)
The tanks mostly get layered under a cardigan, although I do wear #20 and #21 on their own in summer.
DRESSES (22)
Only one dress! This one isn't actually very flattering, the gathers on the empire waist make it look like I'm pregnant. But I just love the rest, so it makes me happy anyway.
JACKETS AND COATS (23-28)
Only #23 is long enough to go with pants, the other denim jackets. the vest and the blazer are cropped to go with skirts and dresses. #28 is my only stylish coat, but it's not very warm. It isn't wool and the quality is not that great. I love the color and the cut though! But I can only wear it in early spring and autumn.
BAGS (29-30)
My one handbag that gets used all the time when I don't use my backpack. I have another leather bag that I love the look of that isn't practical. And a small bag I only use for going to the opera and things like that. It's too small to carry my everyday stuff.
SCARVES (31-33)
I have a lot of scarves, but if I had to pick the ones I wear most (warm, middle and lightweight) these would be it.
SHOES (34)
My most worn shoes. The oxfords are really battered already which makes me mad because I bought them last year and they were expensive. The boots are my only warm, weather proof shoes for fall winter. My old boots are in a bad way and don't get much wear anymore. The sneakers are fairly new but I love them. I'm not a sneaker girl, but these are just my thing. Forgot to add my one pair of sandals, they are Birks. I also have black Ecco ballet flats, but I don't wear those much, not sure why.
#35
Too bright cardi that's a bit too tight. Love the grey merino (so soft), but I don't like the fussy waterfall cut.
#36
Like them all, but they are worn out/out of shape.
#37
Different reasons. Wrong cut/fabric/color or simply worn out.
#38
Don't feel like 'me' in these button-downs.
#39
The two shorts on the left are too large. I'm not feeling the denim clamdiggers on the left. I don't like the denim skinnies on the right, unflattering rear view. The red skinnies are very loud and I still feel slightly uncomfortable in them. I'm still wearing the black straight legs a lot, but they are washed out and slightly too big. Also a tad too short. The dark wash bootcuts got worn a lot this fall, but I don't feel so fab in them. I much prefer my lightwash bootcuts in #4.
#40
I only found two ways to wear the plaid skirt and I have a hard time to make it work. I do like it though. The green skirt is my only summer skirt, but it creases like hell when you are just thinking of sitting down, not so fab. The blue patterned one is a wrap skirt. I do like it, but I need some kind of shorts to wear under it.
#41
The jersey dress shrunk in the wash an is more of a tunic in length now. Not a flattering cut. The other was a favourite but the fit is off now.
#42
Three practical and/or warm jackets. They aren't fab, but do their job.
#43
I haven't worn the green one much, it seems a bit frumpy to me IRL. I've worn the plaid shirt to death this winter, but I really only bought it to go under the big grey wool sweater. Worn with jeans and my rugged boots I feel a bit too lumberjack. I guess it's just not girly enough.
#44
The grey wool sweater is itchy, it only works with a turtleneck layered under. And it's very warm then, almost too warm. The other grey sweater is too big (men's wear) and the light one a bit too short. It would work over a skirt, but it looks off with the dark skirts I have.
Minimal wardrobe, right? Where would you start? I'm thinking about creating a list with very concrete items. Any idea how I can implement my style aspirations? What does a Bohemian Prairie Girl need?
I'm thinking about doing some outfits for another post...
