Analyse this look -Jennifer Aniston

I happened upon this outfit of Jennifer Aniston this morning. She is attending the premier of Call me Crazy which is a series of short films focussing on mental illness.

Jennifer looks the picture of radiance and good health but I would love your opinions on the outift by Christian Dior;
Do you think shorts work in a formal outfit?
How do you find the proportions?
Is the look age appropriate?

I normally really like JA's out fits and look. Love her casual california balzer and jeans vibe, but this out looks very odd. It makes her look very pear shaped which she isn't. I think she generally looks great in shorts, and I don't find them age inappropriate its just that the proportions are too odd.

Frankly she looks like she is in the early stages of pregnancy to me. I don't think the outfit is inappropriate for her on the red carpet, but I would not suggest most women of any age try it at home.

Hmm, I really like the idea of the outfit, and the shorts do not bother me at all. However I believe that something is quite wrong with the fit of her top.

I don't find this flattering at all:(. The proportions are a little strange but not in a good way. I have seen some very cool and edgy outfits with silk shorts and "harem" shorts and I think they can work for a formal occasion and are age appropriate, but I really think Jen missed the mark here.

Totally wrong. But for me it's not the shorts per se. I think Jen's shorts here are almost like some short leggings, or even like some underwear(boyleg knickers), so it's more about not balacing out the top's weight (and level of formality) or so.

She doesn't usually look chunky to me but here she does. And it gives off the vibe of a romper.

I don't care for it. The proportions seem odd, for one. I'm not keen on most strapless looks, and this one is no exception. I think the shorts look awkward with this top, and the top is unflattering, IMO. It looks like someone cut the top and sleeves off of a jacket and left some half-lapels there.

She is lovely as always, and her legs give me envy. I do think the shorts are not the culprit here, it's the top. If it were a beautiful white silk blouse or something similar on top, she'd look 1000x better.

Jen can do so much better! Black is NOT her colour, and although I have no objections to this as a red carpet outfit, it doesn't work for her. Pass!

sorry no help here...i always believed sometimes ...she is so laid back and casual that dress with 0 polished and not very age apropiate ...she stuck with the girl next door vibe ..

The lines of this outfit are very severe and don't seem to work with Jennifer's soft curves. IMO it would look much better on a rectangle or IT body type. In all fairness, the photo seems to have been taken at a downward angle, which is seldom flattering on anyone.

Since we have spoken of age appropriate over the last few weeks on YLF forum, while I think she is a lovely pretty woman, she screams of the need for validation to me (all those magazine covers maybe bias me) but then to wear shorts that don't look that great on her to a formal event just reinforces that to me. She is a beautiful woman, show that confidence please!

Jennifer Anniston IMO gives off an air of arrogance by not pitting more effort into her look for events like this one. I don't have that big of a problem with the top. (I really think its the camera angle doing her injustice.) But the short drag the look down. It might be a cute look with a tuxedo jacket and more interesting shoes. And if you're going to wear shorts to a red carpet event, I think a dressier hairstyle is called for.

I agree this is not Jennifer's most flattering look, but I don't think it's the shorts.

As for age-appropriate, if you have great legs, go for it.

The shorts give off a bike shorts vibe to me and are too short for the height of her heels. They seem to make her highs look heavier than the probably are. If they were fingertip length and wider at the hem, I think it might look quite a bit better. With that top I would prefer a skirt. Finally, black is not a good color on Aniston.

I think shorts could work for a formal outfit as long as they are at least fingertip length which would also be *my* minimum length *rule* for skirts/dresses. Shorter than that is not elegant to my eye and would be more appropriate for a casual or sporty outfit.

As to age appropriateness? I think it depends on the legs. I would not like to see this look on elephant thighs! This particular look, however, just looks *off* to my eye and would look off on anyone IMHO.

Is that really the same outfit? I can't imagine Dior letting Jennifer Aniston leave their premises looking like that. The top doesn't fit! Why has the bodice developed wings? What is with that Home Econ 101 hem? And the baby diaper-pants shorts?

I think the shorts are OK for California. We don't do formal. They *are* dressy shorts. Which I understand is an oxymoron, dressy shorts.

I think of Jen Aniston as having a younger, girl-next-door, more casual style anyway so in theory she could pull the formal shorts things off. Unfortunately as others have mentioned, the fit is just not working.

I am so sorry for the ridiculously late reply to this thread.

I'm happy to see that others felt the outfit slightly missed the mark. My initial reaction was that the bottom half needed more length to balance the top. I couldn't help feeling she had forgotten her pants. Slightly longer shorts would have looked much better to my eye.

But as others have mentioned the fit of the top seems off also, perhaps this was an off the peg no time for alterations affair?

With regards to the age appropriate question, I do think a slightly (couple of inches) longer short and better fit of the top would have made the outfit more appropriate for her age, figure and standing.

Anyhow, I think Jennifer looks as fresh as a daisy in a way which my see through blue skin envies and I do love that she has taken a risk with her style choices.

I do like formal shorts, but I agree there is a romper effect. Still, I like that she is taking risks. She played it very, very safe on the red carpet for a long time.
