An update and a question - YouLookFab Forum

I have now had a week at my new job. Much better hours leading to more time for family and house work, though I've lost all the YLF reading time on my former commute. The job itself isn't thrilling me yet (having a loooong induction period) but I am very grateful to have one at all.

Stylewise it is quite a different atmosphere from my former city professional services place. More casual and much colder!! I am calling it scarf city because most of the women wear scarves and jumpers. So I am getting to wear some looks that were too warm to wear prior to this. Hardly anyone wears suits, which is a pity, as I love wearing mine.

So my question is, given the coldness and the casualness, should I keep the knitted dotty hi lo jumper I asked about recently, even though it was thought to be too small ( I don't think I can size up ) http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....er-pics-kr

I am loving my dotty sweatshirt but I don't know that I'd wear it for work as I feel like people who aren't trendy will think it is too casual. I am getting wear out of it though, and will attach a picture from my phone in a sec that I wore today (no semi tuck, as i couldn't find my belt)

It you think it's too small, then I would return it. Maybe you can wait to see what others wear for a little longer before wearing the sweatshirt.

I'll have to try the jumper again before I make my mind up to return it (though not for too long - it is a 30 day window) I didn't mind the smaller size that much myself - or did I? Can't remember!

And I do have plenty to wear in the new job without needing to wear the sweatshirt. I am glad I waited before purchasing much this winter. There'll be no point in buying nice tops - I'll need to go warmer.

Thanks Angie. There is someone who turns up in an old tracksuit (though this is commented on) and someone else with a green mohawk, so perhaps the dotty sweatshirt is ok after all! They are very into diversity!

The sweatshirt should be great at your more casual job. I would return the jumper. You will find something more suitable later in the season! Glad that things are going well on the whole, Anne.

If you feel like the sweatshirt is too casual, could you try doing a semituck with it? Tucking can sometimes create a more "professional" appearance.

I hate to have you buy the dotty jumper because there's a reason you haven't bought it yet. I say to wait until you find something that's really great, as long as you have enough clothes to get by in the meantime.

Glad the new job is going well, really like the dotty sweatshirt and I think it would depend on what you teamed it with as how casual it read for work

Thankyou so much everyone for responding. My apologies for not getting back to this thread sooner - as I mentioned above my YLF time is quite cut back (especially since I have been out two evenings and in bed with a headache the third)

Gigi - I have already bought the smaller size dotted jumper. And I know what you mean about semi tucking, though I always wonder if people who aren't up with fashion will have the reaction as my husband (ie thinking you have just got something caught unintentionally in your belt!)

I guess what I was thinking with this job is that it looks like a job where I could be wearing a jumper almost every single day because it is that cold - so maybe I need a few more and should keep the dotty jumper. I have also been thinking about upgrading my 6 year old black turtleneck one - since most women wear scarves all the time maybe I don't need a fashionable background and a plain one will do. A white turtleneck I bought last year is getting lots of use!

Oh, sorry, Anne, I didn't know that you had already bought the smaller jumper. I guess I would still try to do without it, since you were hesitating about keeping it. Do you have time to do some shopping in the near future to see if you can find something that you love 100%? I will admit that what happens to me is that I keep something that I'm really settling for, and then when something I really like pops up, I don't have the money because I spent it on the other item.

Funny comment about the semitucking. I think Suz's husband has said the same thing!

The dotty sweatshirt is a good shape on you... which sounds funny, I know, because it's a *shapeless sweatshirt* right? A necklace would dress it up a lot, if you felt like it. Or a skirt.

I'm sorry to see the dotty jumper go, but if your new place is cold... the cropped design won't fly IMO. I hate the draft personally, anyways. Creepy feeling... hehe

I like your sweatshirt, and it would look great with a solid scarf, which might dress it up enough to make you comfortable. Can you wear a button front shirt underneath it? That would keep you warm and give you a third way to wear it.
