I watched "scatter my ashes at bergdorf's" and loved seeing Betty, and seeing her co-workers talk about her. They broke the mold when they made that one
I worked in a small boutique for a while in the early days of the new millennium, and the service in that shop was generally good. If the owner's wife wasn't around we were able to REALLY help the clients, but the owner's wife was pushy and good at lines and unimaginative at making outfits. There were no limits on how many garments you could take in the dressing room, and mostly everything a client bought went out the door on hangers in dress bags, not folded or crammed into a plastic sack.
Retail these days has gone to sh*t in far too many stores. I kind of hate going shopping at brick and mortar stores anymore, because it's: a sea of sameness, staff is either pushy or disinterested, there's limits to how many garments I can try on, etcetera etcetera etcetera
I've had to educate myself on how to read size charts, how to read item descriptions, how to read between the lines in item descriptions, how to have a critical eye when looking at pictures of garments online, and that Etsy is a wonderful place to go for personalized service and personalized garments.
So I guess I've had to start becoming a little bit like my own Betty, and it's exhausting.
