Some of you may remember my beloved Derek Lam mixed-media top (pic below) which, even on sale, was a major investment piece for me about a year ago. Several months ago I asked for help styling it, because even though I ADORED it, I was having trouble making it work. It languished in my closet, and I realized several days ago that I have owned it for a year and worn it exactly twice. So when considering outfits for DD's birthday dinner, I decided that if I couldn't make this top work, I was going to have to let it go. Well, I couldn't make it work. I love that top. LOVE it. But I feel TERRIBLE in it, and it doesn't fit right with anything. So it had to go.
Today, I took pics of it to sell on a high-end consignment site online. And LO AND BEHOLD. I know why it hasn't worked for me. It is two sizes too small!!! Yes. TWO sizes. How on earth did that happen? Somehow, I ordered based on the GB sizing -- so I decided that the last one available, which was a GB 6, would work for me (but that meant it was a US 2!).
So I spent (for me) a small fortune on a top that was never going to work, and since then I have been trying to squeeze myself into it. It gets zipped but my arms feel like sausages and my midsection feels lumpy. Well, NO WONDER. I feel a mixture of relief, frustration, and just craziness that I have been living this nightmare for a year!!!!!
