The book Isis recommended is a good one. Since you don't know much about your machine, it would be a really good idea to either take a class or enlist the help of a friend who knows a little something about sewing,
If I were you, I'd probably start with a skirt with an elastic waistband and no zipper. The first pattern in Sew What is good.
Another alternative, and equally easy, would be a wrap skirt. There's also a pattern for this in the Sew What book.
The Crescent skirt from Sewaholic patterns is a bit more complicated, but Tasia, the owner walks you through every step of the construction in her excellent tutorials.
I'm not sure which pattern catalogs you have access to where you live, Ottobre publishes a few magazines of women's clothing patterns, but they're generally more advanced and don't necessarily spell out every step.

You can download some patterns from the Burda website and print them out, which has its advantages, but I didn't see anything at first glance that might be good for a beginner. It wouldn't hurt to take a closer look though:
