American Eagle jeans jacket, plus a little surprise

(thanks to you know who)

Not wearing this out today but giving you a look-see at some new stuff...

I love the body of the jacket much more than the one from Nordstrom (which I'm going to return, so not showing a pic, but it was too small, this one's cropped better and also this one is faded nicely and has a more well-made feel to it).

And I took the tags off this one too. Maybe I shouldn't have? But anyway, the only thing I dislike are the sleeves. Way too long, but even scrunched/rolled up, it just looks like so much extra fabric (because it's denim, not some thin cotton, duh!) So I may have to find out about getting it altered, if that can be done. Otherwise I'll look like a little kid wearing too-big clothes. As usual.

These boots are very cool. I will need to adjust to their being white--it seems like it will become the focal point of an outfit. They are a little tight in the calf (but wearable), and hopefully I will slim down my calves just enough this spring when I start getting more active for them to have that perfect fit.

Mochi: Very nice use of layering -- quite pleasing to the eye, but still easygoing. The boots are amazing, so it's fine everyone notices them! I agree that this is a lot of sleeve. You might try a rubber band in the cuff to hold the scrunch in place. Just make sure it's not too tight, if you know what I mean! Could you try putting popping the shirt color, or laying it on top of the jacket collar? It would be great to see that bit of bright white nearer your face! Your style quotient is going up, up, up!

Sleeves are rolled, so I can't see the construction but even if they have cuffs, it can be shortened. If they have that sleeve end opening that shirts have, the excess material can be made into a strip of binding and that slit elongated so it makes sense again.

Oh my...the boots!!! Fabulous x gazzillion! This outfit is great with the layering and bookending with the white shirt/boots. Love the fit of the jacket - sleeves can be shortened no problem.

Wow these docs are so awesome! To me, the jacket fits really well, so if you could get the sleeves altered it would be 100% perfect. Astrid recently got her jacket altered too right? So it can definitely be done!

Love the boots and the jacket. I wish I could see the sleeves unrolled to see how much of a sleeve there is but I think it can be altered. Don't worry about the tags, AE will take it with your receipt.

The boots are TDF on you!!! I remember you were slightly concerned that they would be unflattering or make your calves look wider, because they were white? Well, they look sleek and gorgeous on you, and so edgy! Great outfit too.

Re: the jacket. I'm thinking that it's more the width of the sleeves than the length that is causing the excess fabric feel when you scrunch/roll. They look like they could definitely use some narrowing or tapering, which I bet a tailor could do. I like wide sleeves but not on a stiff fabric like denim. The fit through the body and the length are very nice!

The sleeves on the jacket are the only thing holding it back. I agree with the suggestions to alter.

Great boots! The jacket looks very nice on you. The sleeves can absolutely be altered--I did mine myself. You remove the cuff, cut off the amount you need the sleeves shortened, then sew the cuff back on.

I'm so excited about these Docs on you, I'm practically bouncing on my chair! I think they look awesome on you, and the white shirt does a great job of bookending. I love the whole look!

I agree with Diana that the sleeves could stand to be narrowed slightly as well as shortened. The fit otherwise looks great. I swear, once I found the right denim jacket I have worn it constantly -- I hope you enjoy yours just as much!

Love it! The boots are awesome, and great with the classic jacket and shirt.

Instead of rolling the sleeves bottom up, try this:
- Turn back the sleeve so that the cuff is up by your elbow, or as far as it can go without being tight. The bottom of the sleeve is now inside out.
- Roll from the bottom of the fold (you'd now be rolling two layers at a time), until just overlapping the cuff.

This helps you get a more clean roll, and also has the added benefit of not losing the cuff inside the roll. I once bought a jacket online and it came with the sleeves like this - I've been hooked since!

Thanks, everyone! Great suggestions (rae's especially--need to scroll back and reread, though). I agree that the sleeves should be tapered as well as shortened. I'm hoping to have this jacket for a long while. It's really a classic and should stand the test of time!

I'm so trying this Rae.
I cuff mine twice if I wear it over a winter coat, so I don't get bothered with rolling/ unrolling, but I do prefer the cuff showing. I think this will solve it. Thanks!

Oh, Nancy, those Docs "are home" now!!! I absolutely love them on you and agree with the others that they look sleek, stylish and elongating. I'm so happy to see your photos and the white shirt is a perfect choice. I know there will be more stylings coming up and I can't wait to see them. Rae's idea with cuff-turning may help with the jacket to give a clean, polished, just-the-right-size look in the interim. MWAH back to you!!
