Ugh. That's a sad way for them to end, though the end has been nigh for a long while. They've made some terrible management and marketing decisions over the years. I used to love AA, but the quality took a nosedive when they started to diversify and move away from 100% cotton basics. Guess I'll be hanging on to all my old tshirts and interlock miniskirts until they fall apart, for nostalgia's sake.
Gildan is a fine-gauge knitwear manufacturer - which is interesting . AA always seemed sleazy to me , although it admittedly read all of the stories about him with a certain amount of perverse glee .
That's too bad, in that I liked the idea of manufacturing clothing in the US. But like Echo, I found the models' pictures pornographic and won't miss that.
I am not surprised. They have declared bankruptcy a couple of times and was very controversial. The CEO / Owner had some huge personal , ethical and moral issues and people have been boycotting it for years. I am surprised it made it this far.
If anyone is interested, AA in the University District in Seattle is apparently going to be a liquidation center for merchandise from other locations. It has extended its current lease until April. (For the record, I am not a fan of the company as it existed under the last CEO either.)
I've been listening to a Podcast called Startup that is about Dov Charney and how he is going about starting up a new brand since he was ousted from AP. He is very controversial but really made the company what it was and was responsible for the sexy ads. Looks like they couldn't make it work without him.
