Am I the only one who's nervous?

Is anyone else a wee bit nervous about heading into a new season? I just finally got my winter wardrobe to a place where I know what I'm doing at least 80% of the time. This will be my first spring with YLF and I haven't got a hot clue what I'm doing!

I have some new pieces I like but I'm still lost about putting outfits together, finding things that are flattering...I don't know...just feeling a bit out of sorts.

I'm just afraid I'll tire of mint by the time it warms up around here. It normally doesn't get warm till June here.

yes and no here... Spring summer is my dominant season so I feel good about having more options, but I am afraid that my clothes will be a bit boring by YLF standards in hot weather... I am hoping my new found bag love will be my main accessory/interest point when it is too hot for anything else...

Yeah, I'm with Anna.

Warm weather is so far off for us in Seattle, so I can comfortably wear my fall/winter clothes for a while yet. Last year we had rain through much of July so I'm not holding my breath!

(Then again, we've had some truly lovely days in February - but nothing warm enough to bare my arms outdoors, and I'm still wearing my wool coat.)

I was - mostly because I got so used to layering that I could not figure out how to put flattering outfits together without using jackets and scarves and boots. But now I feel more confident after playing around with various combinations.

It's already 80 degrees in Chicago which is unheard of .... we'll see what happens, but I think I've got to pull out my spring/summer stuff now.

I'm sort of in the same boat as you Nakidra - totally unseasonably warm weather here in Winnipeg. Normally we still have quite a bit of snow and are lucky if it gets to +5-8 celcius during the daytime. Well it's been ridiculously warm (anywhere between +17 - +22 celcius) already, the snow is completely gone and people are raking their yards.

It's always a little jolt adjusting to dressing for different seasons. I swing wildly from tropical to wintry and back again every few years, so although I do feel out of sorts for a bit, I get into the swing pretty quickly now. You'll be fine!

Don't have a clue how to dress or what to wear. Seriously, I feel like a rank beginner all over again.

I wasn't nervous until summer showed up out of the blue! I'm normally daydreaming of sandals in April and it's already too warm for boots. It happened so fast I wasn't ready. Getting dressed the last couple of weeks has been super tough! I just put in two large orders online, 7 dresses, two sandals, three skirts and two blouses. If most of it works out I'll have a nice start. If most of it fails I'm going to be having trouble getting out the door dressed in the morning.

Shannon it's supposed to be Autumn here but it is still quite warm (26c today) but then the temp is to drop down below 20c later in the week which means I feel that I am dressing between two seasons at the moment.. which I don't like. I am a winter girl so by this time of year I am so over my spring/summer clothing and busting to get my winter wardrobe out. I adore winter dressing but I experience the same feelings as you when we head into summer. But from what I have seen you will do just fine.

Anna - you look AMAZING in mint! I don't think you'll tire of it before your weather warms up!

Sarah - I think you may have hit something here - I too wonder if my spring wardrobe is going to meet YLF standards.

Traci - good luck with your order! I hope it all works out well for you.

I'm kind of like you Deborah - I find dressing for winter suits me better. I love structured jackets and when it's 25 degrees or hotter, that just isn't practical. I think maybe I feel too much on display in summer - harder to hide the wobbly bits!

I'm a little bit scared of what will happen if the office gets too hot for boots, even though I think that fear is probably groundless. I'm a teeny bit scared of getting bored, esp. with SYC in place...

I'm in a funk because I feel I am at my best with the multi layering, scarf wielding, boots wearing type of stuff. I'm going to feel so naked and exposed when hot weather hits! Bummer!

Shannon, I haven't been around much (on spring break with the family and still working a lot) - but I wanted to pop in and say that I posted pretty much the same thing last spring - I was FINALLY feeling like I was in my groove and then the season changed. But you know what? You're on such a roll that you'll have absolutely no trouble adjusting once the weather settles into something predictable and normal. It'll take a bit of adjusting, but I have no doubt you'll be posting some fab spring outfits very soon!

I'm so out of it. I haven't been dressing well recently anyway...sliding back into old habits to a degree...and I am at a loss as to how to pull off that chic look without a jacket or some nice shoes, that were pulling a huge amount of the weight that was creating my more polished look during this winter. So in other words, yes! Help!

Shannon, yep your outfits rock so was hoping you would be MY inspiration in my first YLF year/season.... Summer (HOT & Steamy PLUS!) is my dominant season so i am truly waiting to be inspired by you and other wonderful people... Rae, you are too cute - I had a friend over from Slovenia here in mid of our summer when the winter gear was starting to be displayed in store and she could only ask if anyone could possibly wear boots, a jacket or scarf EVER here... We find any excuse but we dream of the option to accessorise!

Shannon I always feel a little lost as the seasons change. I have to rethink "how does one dress for winter again" or summer, as in your case. Summer is definitely harder, as the others have said.

oh boy can i relate!! moving from a fall dominant to summer dominant climate a dozen years ago precipitated a massive style identity crisis for me. Whew! i'm still recuperating all these years later

Anyhow, i was looking thru the closet in preparation for spring myself recently. i was poking around in there and trying to come up with warm weather outfits. I've realized that blouses with some structure to them - more of the presence of a jacket - really help me to pull looks together in the warmer seasons. I love jackets and even wear quite lightweight ones in warmer temps. But once you hit 95F......it's just not on.

So my plan is to make some structured blouses to wear in spring, summer and fall. This blouse works well....it's nice and lightweight but it has the 'punch' of a jacket. I just got back from the fabric store (i sew) with a length of beautiful shell pink linen! And a couple of other fabrics i've had my eye on have been discounted - hooray!

At any rate, try putting together some warm weather outfits, you'll see what works and what you could use. You're very smart to be thinking this far ahead, Shannon! steph

Oh I am so thankful I live in a moderate climate as I absolutely loathe hot weather. We lived in a city in upper San Joaquin Valley (Chico.CA) where it averaged 100 farenheit all summer (and that was four months) and I just wilted. On the other hand, everyone wilts and spends most time indoors due to the heat. No one looks crisp all the time. People showed up at Chamber of Commerce in shorts. I was shocked but that's how it is there (except me - I did crops and skirts!).

We may get to Spring and warm up eventually but I can still imagine wearing a blouse/top and second layer most of the time. I look for 3/4 sleeves as I don't like going sleeveless and lighter fabrics. Sandals replace other footwear. Otherwise, I still wear black and even denim as it isn't that hot here. plus indoors, it's the same year round.
For the few days/weeks that it is, skirts and sandals are lifesavers.

I am looking now for some lightweight linen sweaters and lighter blouses and they seem to be popping into stores. I want a pair of sandals with a slight heel that are truly comfy.

Yes I am nervous especially since I'm not supposed to be buying any more clothes. I have so many nice fall/winter clothes but very little specifically for spring/summer. Thankfully the temps are much the same year round here (it's often colder/foggier in summer than winter) so I think I can get by with the clothes I have, even though the colors may be more autumn-like. I don't look that great in pastels anyhow and look better in an autumn palette.

Shannon I think you will do great even with the change of season. You already have started with the floral and other dresses and SA skirt so you're off to a great start! You're so stylish you will have no problem adapting!

I always have trouble at the beginning of a new season. Usually I have some new things that I haven't quite worked out how to wear yet, and it's hard to get out the door quickly and feel confident.

Shannon, I really enjoy the arrival of a new season. It's fun to take-in the local fashion parades and view my fav stores new lines!
I find it helpful to get hard-copies of catalogues, cut-out the outfits I like and see if I can use pieces I already have to create my version of the latest looks. This way I can also make-up a shopping or 'Wish-List' for any missing must-haves!

What's making me nervous is that for the first time I've got cravings to pare down my wardrobe! I think I will hold on to all my accessories for now, but I'm going to copy Isabel and spend time with my clothes and figure out this capsule thing, what I need to take out, and the holes I need to fill to make spring and summer dressing more smooth and effortless.

Also in this boat with you Shannon. I think you'll quickly get the hang of it though. Think how much fun you've had getting to the point you have with your winter wardrobe. Now you can do that all over again with Spring/Summer. You should check out some last spring posts for inspiration and I'm pretty sure Angie will have some spring lists and forulas coming up shortly. Hang in there - we'll all transition together.

My biggest problem in warmer weather is what to wear on my legs. Sometimes I'm just too cold without tights or pants of some sort, but it's too warm to wear jeans or real trousers. I also feel naked when my legs are bare so I'm usually uncomfortable anyway.

I suppose this year I should look out for more summery dresses. The ones I have are all a bit too formal for everyday wear.

I'm nervous too! I think I still have to buy quite a few things before I feel like I have all that I need for a fab spring and summer. And now that I know better about quality, fit and what I want to look like I feel like I have a hard time finding these items. We had the first warm days here and now I panic a bit.

Steph - that blouse is AMAZING! And I never thought about finding blouses with more structure to take place of my jackets in warm weather. Think I'm going to have to do some looking around. And I ADORE linen - don't even care about the wrinkle factor. I love the feel of it on and the breathability.

It's comforting to hear that so many of you are also feeling some angst about the change in season and a switch in what we wear. Angie's blog post this morning was definitely helpful - although it's already too warm here for some of these ideas.

I spent last night trying on all sorts of different combos with some things I've pulled out of my "storage closet" downstairs. Some of them are things I purchased at the end of spring/summer last year in anticipation and a couple of purchased/thrifted in the last two months for spring. So time to play with my clothes and see what I can come up with!
