am I the only one who needs pockets?

I almost never, except the few times a year I wear dresses, or the formal affairs, wear anything without pockets. You see, I am probably one of the very few women on the planet who does not like carrying purses. Thus I have a more difficult time finding pants with pockets, other than jeans and the more casual kind. It gets worse when it gets too warm for jackets and blazers, because pants pockets become even more necessary. I suppose since I am such a minority it will do no good to complain about why pockets are missing in womens clothes.

I often wish that women's pants had the deep pockets of men's and all those great pockets in blazers and coats.

No, you're not alone. I like having the option to go out with just my wallet, phone and keys in my pocket, and not having to carry a purse. (I do take a purse a lot of the time still, especially if I'm going to be out all day or using transit instead of my car.) That's one of the reasons I still wear jeans so much - it's harder to find other casual pants with several pockets, and things slip out of inseam pockets so easily - much more than in jeans pockets. I keep my keys in my pocket unless I am wearing something with literally no pockets, and I know that with two big car fobs it kinda spoils the line a bit, but I don't care. I don't want to have to fumble my keys out of the bottom of my purse several times a day for the rest of my life.

Not a pocket fan here. Slash pockets never lay right on my body and i prefer no back pocket on any jean or pant.

I'm a big big pocket fan. This is one of the reasons for my apron fashion: I can add pockets this way. But it's true, I don't like pockets in pants at the waist.

This is one of the reasons I prefer men's jeans, deep pockets. some of my older jeans have the deeper pockets but the newer styles if not sewn shut won't fit a lip balm.
I looking into one of those magnetic belt free pouches for the summer.

Another pocket fan -- but I also avoid pants with slash pockets since they always gape open on me.

I've added pockets to the side seams of dresses, and I sew in pocket extensions to jeans and shorts that have annoyingly shallow pockets using colorful & inexpensive fabric "quarters".

I used to go crazy if my skirt, etc., didn't have pockets, but I eventually learned to cope since there's hardly anything with pockets anymore. I guess I have gone over to the Dark Side and now don't care if something has pockets.

I like dresses with pockets, but only if the pocket sits well and does not gape open. In addition, I generally do not like the feeling of actually having anything heavy in a pocket (a credit card is fine - but a wallet and keys are too much). Many pockets in women's clothing are too shallow to hold a wallet securely. So I am strange in that I love dresses with pockets but then rarely use them.

Heh. This is another argument for my baggy pants. They always have generous pockets.

Putting on my designer/dressmaker hat for a second though, I'm not always that wild about pockets in other garments. They're very useful of course, but there needs to be a lot of structure if you need to carry more than a tissue.

Then again, dress pockets are great for carrying tissues. You always need tissues. Just remember to take them out in the wash.

i don't need pockets, but…i love them and any outfit what has them, brings a higher level of happiness….i think its a big part of why i don't like dresses or skirts….but i did get a maxi dress from target a few years ago with pockets, and a maxi skirt last year from athleta with pockets---and i love them both!

A well placed pocket is a wonderful feature. My DS is fond of telling me that women's clothing does not have functional pockets like men's clothing and that is why I am forever frustrated and carrying a purse.

I have a parallel pet peeve, it is about winter coats without hoods. Maybe any coat without a hood! Yes, all coats should have hoods. Off topic I know, but your post made me think of it......

I'm with Deb and Laurinda: I get so frustrated pants shopping because of all the gapey slash pockets. I appreciate pockets on outerwear, but not a fan on other items as I am tempted to put things in them that alter the way they hang. Approprio makes a great point about pockets on oversize clothing though. Those would be functional.

I use pockets all the time, too. So I am mostly in pants and shorts. If my pants don't have functional pockets, I have been known to clip my keys to a belt loop and tuck into the waistband. No fashion prizes here! But I never lose my keys : )

I like back jeans pockets, and pockets in toppers, but otherwise I feel more often then not they detract from the design if you put anything in them. But then I'm happy carrying clutches or wristlets or mini-bags with a cross-body strap if I just want to walk around with minimal stuff.

In the past though, when I didn't carry a purse, I made my DH carry my pocket stuff when I was wearing a dress, and that was a little unfair to him, so I can see that well-designed pockets are useful.

One of my personal shopping rules is that all jeans must have functional front pockets. Although shallow, they're essential for slipping in keys securely and hanging my work badge. I've also managed to get my skirt/dress collection to be about 75% pocketed, although I don't carry much in those pockets any more after cracking my smartphone screen once when it fell out of my dress pocket.

When my son was about three, I remember buying him some really cute corduroy pants. He refused to wear them because they didn't have pockets! After getting him pants with pockets, I had to empty the pockets every laundry day. They were always full of "treasures".

I don't fill my pants pockets with treasures, but I do like to carry a piece of kleenex at the very least. I'm very particular about the pockets my jackets have. They have to be able to hold cell phone, gloves, dog poop bags, keys, sunglasses, bird guide, etc. I think that's why I like field jackets, because of the pockets.

Well, I used to love them and wore chinos and trousers with generous pockets, but I've gone astray because one, "things" are larger now-phones, keys, have to carry reading glasses--and so a pocket has to be really big/deep to carry even one those items. Then, the line of the clothing is very altered--bulgy pockets; and distorts the fabric.
So now I want less pockets on actual pants, but still need good deep slant pockets on coats, for hands and gloves!

Ugh, my mum always drilled into my head that women do NOT stuff things in their pockets, but they carry a bag instead. The worst thing ever was to have a pocket bulge or to have change jingling in one's pocket; it was unfeminine and unbecoming. So there's my baggage surrounding pockets.

However, I do a lot of assessments at work, so I need to carry either my phone to use as a timer or a timer. I normally wear a blazer in order to do so, as I clearly do not carry a purse in school. But regardless, pockets in something I am wearing are essential because although I carry a portfolio with all my other materials (papers, pencils, etc.), a timer won't fit anywhere except in a pocket. I happen to love the pockets along the vertical inside edge of men's jackets, but women's clothes never have the same options.

No! You are not the only one. I need pockets too. I prefer not to carry a handbag, and in the winter this works because I always have a coat or jacket with pockets, and I mostly wear pants, which also usually have pockets. I don't need to carry much stuff. But in the warmer months -- as soon as it's warm enough for bare legs -- I like to wear skirts, and for some reason those rarely seem to have pockets. It's most annoying.

I just like to have pockets, especially in toppers, to stuff my hands in them.

Your not alone at all! I love pockets especially on weekender drawstring skirts. Busy around the home need pockets

When getting my daughters wedding dress made recently pockets were included in the design. Concealed in the side seams with a waist of unpressed pleats, in Ivory raw silk. They were so handy for a hankie and somewhere to put her glasses.

I love pockets, but only for my hands and a tissue, on indoor garments.
My walking coat like Jaileen must have multiple pockets for everything except my umbrella, and an umbrella pocket would be even better!
