I took a leap on the St. John stretch wool " cropped" tuxedo pants (I cannot say the c________ word or Le S______, but they are slim black with a contrasting navy tuxedo stripe. )
As Angie described, they are a lovely lightweight wool and with 4% spandex. They remind me a bit of some of the great Theory suit pants that I can never wear because Theory pants don't " get" me.
Well- they are very fun with a high waist( though not total high waist, on me! ), flat front but I can tuck in blouses and feel pretty good- amazing for this kind of fit.
However, on me they are full- length, not cropped. Possibly not some folks's PPL but they DO break on the foot with flats. And because they are not super- skinny, they fall well over slim boots and when that is combined with a tucked top, it's a pretty long legline.
To make them cropped if have to hack off 4-5 ". That does look good with a pair of booties I have, but it's more seasonally confused-limited for me.
If I wear them at full length, I can wear ballet flats, loafers or pumps as a bare- vamp look and also with several pairs of ankle boots and could wear socks or tights with those in winter. Amazingly they work with tucked- in silky shirts and drapey T's and also with bigger, roomier untucked knits and sweaters.
So I'm tempted to utilize them as a more classic(?) slim tuxedo pant to make use of this great season- less stretch fabric and versatility and forego the option to trend- ify them as crops. Of course I could always shorten them later, though it's possible the cropped craze would be waning by then.
Stylish tucking in and graceful pant looks are more my style goals and than getting the cropped look or kick flare look which can tend to go wrong and also is not warm enough in cool
weather. I have 2 other less expensive cropped pants and a couple at ankle so I am wearing a few diffeent types of pant silhouette, not all long. But, Winter Is Coming.
Thoughts, experiences, regrets?
I think I have the right size though the fit is close- I think it works with the stretch wool and flat front/ flat, no- loop waistband. If in a store, I would always try on a size up to see if they are meant to be more drapey, but I would for sure have to alter the waist and backwaist if any bigger.
