Am I mad liking this fabric?

Hi ladies, sorry I haven't been replying much this week, snowed under with work before a few days away next week, but I'd love your input. As you know I sew a fair few of my own clothes and often browse fabric websites and order samples to check out. Well for some reason I keep getting drawn to the fabric in the photo . Now I'm not normally much of a stripe person, but I keep going back to this fabric, time after time. I love minty turquoise and toffee which are in the stripes. But have I just got colour goggles on? I had considered it in either culottes or a skirt where the stripes are angled and with a touch of drape a-la Vivienne Westwood. Do you think it's me?

BTW, I showed the sample to my mother and she was very underwhelmed, saying it was just a man's suiting

Man suiting is fab! :-0 I like it for culottes, the unusual colors contrast nicely with a classic pinstripe pattern.

I personally quite like it, the unexpected colors of the pinstripes pack quite a punch. You could make a lovely culottes + vest summer "suit".

It just so much depends on what you do with it doesn't it! It does conjure a school uniform for me and the colour combo you love kind of comes and goes and never comes back the same way. So if you make something fantastic and classic out of this - the colours might date it maybe.
If it is a straight answer to your question you want- Yep.

I can imagine it for an interesting skirt, but can't picture it in my minds eye for patterned culottes. That's not to say it couldn't work. I can see a long vest though. I'm sure the colours of the fabric will look great with your colouring.

Yes-yes! I could quite envision the "skirt where the stripes are angled and with a touch of drape a-la Vivienne Westwood" from how the fabric drapes in your pictie! I say, go on and let's see it!:-)

DEB, I get what you're saying, though I had envisaged it more away from my face. Charcoal is a Soft Autumn shade. I will ponder that though.

Yes, I guess so dakotacheryl, though I still wear dark wash jeans in the Sumer. Actually here in the UK we sometimes don't get Summer. Maybe it's more for Spring and late Summer?

I can see it in a skirt, bias cut to contrast with the staid fabric?
Or perhaps a long sleeveless vest, patchworked, with fuzzy or chiffon trim that picks up on one of your favourite colours. That trim would go with a nice pair of pants in turquoise or toffee?
Suiting with a quirk is a very fun thing.

I like it too, but I have a fondness for pinstripes -- I agree that it would look fantastic in an architectural style. Some sort of arty twist on classic menswear vibe.

It's gorgeous, and I think it is definitely "you," if you make it in a style you want to wear! Love the colors. A lightweight, quality wool drapes so nicely, too.

It reminds me of the colourway of a Boden blazer I wanted a few seasons back. Lovely mix of colors and I am certain you can figure out something fab to make with it.

You know, the fact that I kept going back to look at the fabric and ponder ideas had to mean something and I think Summer is bang on. I think It's a wildcard for me. I'm going to order it and be damned! I think I'll buy enough so that I can have a play and drape when it comes, and take it from there. Although I really love Sveta and Tanya's culottes and vest idea, I think I may steer away from having the fabric near my face and will concentrate on my lower half. I want to do something that does have a feminine vibe so that it juxtaposes nicely with the fabric type. Thanks again all! Off now to look at Marni

I don't know if it's you, but I love stripes so much I have a Pinterest board titled just that.

This stripe reminds me of a haberdasher pinstripe. Not sure if that is the look you are going for, but it's what I think of when I see it.

Kirstjen ,it's funny that you say you're not sure if it's me, because I wasn't sure at first, but then I had a good think and realised that I've always liked pinstripes. It's stripes like this that I'm not keen on at all. (see photo)

I love Thistle's wide leg pants idea. Perhaps your mom could knit you turquoise sweater to wear with them.

What's wrong with men's suiting? That fabric is awesome. You should cut it diagonally and make a skirt out of it. Not culottes. Those will be out of style in a blink, and that is classic fabric that you'll want to wear for a long time.
