Am I avoiding or succumbing to jumpsuit pitfalls?

Hi all! Hope everyone has had a lovely summer.
In Angie’s posts about jumpsuits, she has cautioned that some of them can look too juvenile in certain contexts or in certain styles. For the first time ever, I have fallen in love with a jumpsuit. This solid colour and simple embellishment doesn’t strike me as the sort of thing that would be too juvenile, but I feel like I need you ladies to weigh in on this. Does it look good on me? Do you think it is overly youthful? If not, would you reserve this strictly for Eveningwear or do you think it could be dressed down somewhat with more subdued shoes and jewelry?
Also, meet Lucy, the new forum guide dog! I think this is her first cameo on the site. I can guarantee it won’t be her last – she likes to crash every conceivable photo op

Lucy aww! Actually it looks like 2 pieces to me, and definitely could be worn to work as well. Love it!

Great to see you, Michele, and your new companion, Lucy. The jumpsuit is not youthful looking in that it is much more sophisticated than a play suit. I like it on you but think about wearing it when using a public restroom. They can be a pain. This suit looks like it could be dressed up with scarves or jewelry or down with sneakers and a denim jacket. The blue color is attractive and seasonless.

I do think it could be worn for work too. My only hesitation is around the shoulders slipping off.

The blue is lovely on you and the style is not juvenile but modern.

Lucy is very lovely - how is she getting on?

Gorgeous color, and so elegant. It looks like it was designed to be worn off the shoulder, so, for me, that would make it more evening wear. But, with a topper or shawl, it would be fine for daytime.

Not at all juvenile. I’d wear it casually for daytime, but not to work because of the off-the-shoulder style.

The color and cut look great on you, and not youthful in a bad way at all. I do agree that the one shoulder look might not be work appropriate, but it is possible you could put a layer over it for the office.

This jumpsuit is so pretty on you. I think it could definitely be worn in a more dressed down fashion with the right shoes and accessories. I think it has a sophisticated vibe so not too youthful.

I'm not sure about it, honestly. It reminds me of Multiples clothing from the 80's. It was made of slinky synthetic fabric, lots of layers, mixing and matching. Lots of draping.
This particular one looks more like it's suitable for a woman of a certain age. Especially the wide leg pants with long top look. The pants are wide, but not wide enough. I love the color on you though.
I think you can find something better. A fabric with a bit more structure, and either a true wide leg or more of a straight or tapered leg

Thanks, all. To those saying it's an off-shoulder style, I feel like the photos I had may not be showing it quite right. It's really more of a single cold-shoulder design on the right side. And fortunately the silver strap stays put quite firmly so no danger of slippage there, as someone quite rightly flagged as a potential danger.

To those asking about Miss Lucy, she's settling in well thanks. But my god this guide dog transition process does not get easier with time or age.

Anna, I really appreciate your honesty. Thank you. Interesting you say that, because it feels nicely structured when on and not like 80's fabric at all. And I would have thought the diagonal lines may have helped keep proportions in check. Perhaps not, though, and I'm glad you shared your perspective. I confess to feeling good in the outfit but will keep your words in mind re. the width of the leg. That could potentially be a simple adjustment if I decide I want to go that route.

I found this on Violeta by Mango, which I think ships to Canada. I did dig through many Canadian retailers but wasn't quite happy with what I found.

I'll try my best at a descriptor
This a faded navy jumpsuit in a rayon blend, it looks like sandwashed silk. It has a tie waist with a decent size sash and overall a nod to the very trendy boiler suit look. But it has a V neck with buttons on the top half. Long sleeve, so totally appropriate for the office. If you still wear your pearl necklace, it would totally work. I love a utilitarian boilersuit myself, but you definitely prefer a more feminine look. The legs are tapered, but not overly so. The buttons are a bit strange, kind of an oblong organic shape, but they're tonal navy, so not too horrible.

I don't think it looks too youthful at all. In fact, my initial reaction was like Anna's--it's something I would probably envision on an older woman.

I think the fit is really good. Great color.

I get an eveningwear vibe from the fabric and the style. I personally would reserve something like this for eveningwear.

I like Anna's find. The silhouette of that jumpsuit looks very modern. And it looks really comfy.

I really like this. I like the silver shoulder embellishment because it is intentional.

Lucy looks beautiful. It sounds hard work training her. Good for her to get used to shopping for clothes and changing rooms though!

Lucy looks like a great shopping companion. The jumpsuit you are showing looks like 2 pieces. It is not something I would see as work appropriate. It is elegant but not edgy. The colour is fabulous on you. I really like the one that Anna linked to. That one looks like a true jumpsuit but still has an elegant look to it.

I like Anna's find- but I certainly like what you are trying here, too. I think the asymmetric one cold shoulder look with a wide and silver stripey strap is a trendy athletic de luxe detail which elevates it from the danger of being perceived as one for the certain aged woman- and I think can be done no problem in a smart-casual sort of even creative office. It will eventually happen to all of us slipping in/through that "certain age" without even noticing so I say it's not end of the world wearing some clothes alike. And I also can relate to liking the layered effect of this exact jumpsuit- I always feel exposed showing off my rear other than in a dress or skirt for a matter- so that layering can also help being more work appropriate. Color is beautiful- as Lucy is, too!:-) I say keep-and pair it with a white sneaker----especially if feeling great in it!

I m not sure that I have much to add to the above comments other than to say make sure you can go to the bathroom easily in it,but I am sure that you have already considered this.

I like it a lot on you. It does read more like separates than a jumpsuit to my eye because of the overlayer, and I’m seeing it as too casual for really dressy eveningwear, but I also know you have some fabulous jewelry, purses, and shoes that can elevate the look.

I really love this on you! I like the colour and I think it just looks really pretty all around. It doesn't read "old" to me.
I don't know how good it would be for work though. I have a jumpsuit that is great for work in warm weather. But once I put a jacket on it - in cooler weather or when going to other offices where the aircon actually works - I find it a pain to go to the toilet. The extra layer seems to make all the difference.
But that said, I would see this as quite versatile for weekends, or fine for work if you can deal with the layers!
Lucy is so gorgeous. It's been hard work retraining, but here's hoping things fall completely into place soon.

I agree with many saying it looks great but reads more 'evening' with the cold shoulder detail.

I think a more structured jumpsuit as Anna suggests, in a dark neutral could definitely be work appropriate and not at all juvenile.

Thank you to everyone who's weighed in here!
I should probably have clarified much earlier on that this is not meant for workwear, but rather various occasions ranging from afternoon cocktails to more fun evenings out. Given the amount of water I drink at the office, I highly doubt a jumpsuit will ever make it to my work capsule.

Angie, I agree - this demands silver shoes. Ideally pointy-toed flats or low heels. So many options, so few available in Canada, and even fewer in my stupid size!! Fewer still that I can find quickly for an event on Sunday! Oh well, I will figure something out.
