Am I an inverted triangle?

Just new to this great site, and figuring out all my fashion faux pas over the years! It's making so much sense! I am still scratching my head about my body shape. I am short, 5'3, and I think I'm therefore a petite inverted triangle.

Using T & S's types, I think I'm either a vase or goblet, but without the long legs.

Here's a photo of me, minus the face. I'm still internet shy.

I don't have a tape measure so can't tell you my measurements, but I am usually a C or D bra. The black sweater does make me look smaller, I must say! Opinions on my type would be greatly appreciated!

I think your assessment is right. Your hips are narrower than your shoulders, giving you an inverted triangle silhouette.

I think it's hard to tell because your clothing is loose. This photo makes you look more like an hourglass to me, but that may be the clothes you are wearing.

Welcome Sunny Sof and thanks for showing us a picture on your first post!

I can’t accurately tell your body type from the clothes you have on, so if you could pop on more formfitting styles, that would be great.

I'd say hourglass at first glance, though.

Funny, the only form fitting thing in my closet was long underwear and this maternity top. It has cap sleeves, which make the shoulders look more squared off.

Anyway, thanks for your advice everyone! Inverted triangle or thick hourglass? I did my waist to hip measurements and there is only 6 inches difference.

We are built so similiarly! I like to say I'm an hourglass with inverted triangle tendencies. For comparison, the measurement taken under my armpits and above my chest is exactly equal to my hip measurement. Waist/hip ratio is 0.8 and will never get any lower than that, with all the dieting and weight loss in the world. My shoulders - I have no problems finding jackets and tops that fit in the shoulders, so I think they are probably average, not overly wide, it's just my shoulder line is super strong, so it can give me the appearance of inverted triangle (which is exaggerated by things like cap sleeves). Thighs and hips - pretty scrawny - no fat to properly fill out pants.

Ultimately the label doesn't matter - it's just a good starting point. Don't get too hung up on it. Take tips from both body shapes and combine, experiment, see what works. I find it helps that, instead of thinking, "I need to dress for my body shape," I think, "I am dressing to achieve a more hourglass appearance." Does that make sense? It's probably why I like to focus on the term "hourglass."
