alternatives to jeans for spring/summer.

When it gets too warm for jeans, and for various reasons shorts are out, what are your casual alternatives?

Mine are knee length 100% cotton pants like photo 1, all cotton chambray pants like photo 2-(I have these exact ones but mine are from Bass), and long maxi skirts.

I wear either my favorite silky breeches (I just posted these in Angie's thread about favorite bottoms too; I have them in black also) or linen trousers (pictured are my screaming orange ones, but I also have an identical pair in navy, as well as straight leg olive ones).

ETA: I also wear skirts a lot but to me that's an entirely different animal and not a jeans alternative.

Wide-leg linen pants! They are sooo breezy. I've been wearing them every summer for years (I don't care if wide legs were out or not). I am always happy when summer comes along so I can wear them again.

Also, wide-leg flowy modal pants. I find them as feminine and swishy as skirts but more practical, especially as a MOTG.

I do have a black modal midi-skirt that is my go-with-everything, dress-it-up or dress-it-down number. And dresses.

Lightweight cotton army green/olive pants - not jeans, but khakis/cargoes in as light a weight cotton as possible. Perfect ones so far were from Club Monco. Rolled up at the ankle, can be dressed up or down.

Ah, you're speaking to my current struggle. Oddly enough, I have a good supply of shorts now, after I found a couple of new pairs last summer that work for me. But my old standby DKNY capris are looking kind of ratty, and I rely too heavily on my black Athleta crops. I'm on the lookout for something now that reflects my current style, but so far nothing has appealed to me that is also sufficiently well-fitting and flattering. I had a cute pair of crops similar to your photo #2 a couple of years ago -- they were by Joe's Jeans, and they were so cute and fit great from waist to knee...However, after I started running, the calves, which were already snug, went to downright too tight, and I could no longer comfortably wear them, so they went to the donation pile. I'm trying these Finds, so we'll see if any of them look good. I struggle so with pants!

I am still enjoying my Gap gray linen pants, full length or with a roll or 2; great for when I want coverage. Also a several years- old gray cotton taper crop pant, practically an ankle pant. Then an EB casual khaki short and a pair of white Jean shorts/ pedal pushers for more casual.

If it's super casual, like my son's baseball games I wear LOFT Lou and Grey cargo pants. For something like work casual I have Eileen Fisher silk pants or soft flowy skirts.

when it gets to hot for jeans i reach for really lightweight cotton twill or cotton sateen pants. for me, i want a pair of pants that are loose and comfy.

Lightweight cotton, loose fitting pants, but I am in the market for some new ones. I try not to spend too much on these, since my summer season is short. i have an Old Navy denim skirt, which is a surprising workhorse in the summer. I like the structure, and it still keeps me cool.
