Have you ever had your jewelry altered? I have a lovely set of cultured pearls that my parents gave me but I never wear them because they always get tangled up in the little hairs on the back of my neck and it hurts like heck. I've been wondering if it is possible to have them altered from a single strand of beads to a style that has a chain and clasp in the back, and maybe use the leftover beads to make some matching dangly earrings.

Is this a crazy idea? Are there any super smart ways to keep the necklace from pulling my hair out that I haven't thought of? I wear it up, of course, but it still pulls the small hairs.
