Here's the result from the seamstress episode :/
This was a nice PC dress, bought last year. Unfortunately a certain fur-child (pic 4) was in a chewing phase and put a hole in it. I figured it was salvagable by making it asymmetric.
Was going to wear it today to work an event, but it's pretty odd. Does it look intentionally architectural enough for a casual but networking event?
This was her second attempt, the first was odder...

I can't tell from the first photo but the second and third ones look good to me; it looks interesting and modern. A lovely dress on you. What's most important is how you feel in it.
And what a hilariously nonchalant fur child!!!

I'll take interesting and modern! I was just expecting the whole side to be diagonal- but wasn't about to keep dealing with her to fix it again. She didn't charge at least...

I’m going to be honest, i think it looks like what it is, an attempt to fix something...wondering why you didn’t just have it hemmed to one length?

I think if you were expecting it to be one long diagonal hem, that would still be salvageable right? You'd just need to trim the 'excess' off from the right side, but in one continuous line.

If that still didn't work out, then no worries - you could just get it chopped to all one length, as suggested above

If it was 1 length it would be too short Ended up wearing something different. Could always use that one as a nightgown!

Nope, does not look intentional to my eye. Could it be cut high on both sides and a bit in the middle in a semicircle, like a shirt?

Like Christie, I feel it’s interesting from the back and a little odd from the front view.

I will never forgive Lilypup for chewing a hole in my Marc Jacobs hoodie... lol

I'm not going to fool with more alterations. It can be a nightgown!

Maybe PC will rerelease the dress (after Angelo is out of bitey mcbiteface mode) so I'll have it back whole!

Such a shame. I found it OK in pics 2-3, though a little “unusual”. Not sure if I would want to wear it if it were me.

Hmm, it looks intentional on the part of your kitty! She is clearly a budding designer . I actually like it but I do like to wear unusual things. And I will add to my list of things to be grateful for the fact my cats have shown no interest in eating clothes!

I think it looks fine but I hear you on the unsuccessful alterations. I often find things...odd...after they’ve been with the seamstress! Bunchy seams, pattern mismatches etc. it’s frustrating.

What a naughty fur child. It looks OK to me, but I can see why you prefer it as a one length shift dress, it is such an elegant and classic style.

I agree with Zaeobi (sorry). I think it should be one continuous line, rather than a scoop.

Another thought, an underskirt/skirt extender in a different fabric that peeks out of the asymmetric part but ends on the same level as the rest of the skirt could make it right.

I like the back view more. I wonder if the angle in pic #1 is distorting things. I bet it looks better in person!

Actually it's the back that bugs me more. The front changes depending how I stand :/

I put my black tube skirt under it to try it out yesterday, but the "tail" in back was longer. My lace one is a maybe, though I'm not sure it's any longer.

Glad I changed to a nice "forgettable" dress before going to the event though!

For me, I would say it looks more odd than interesting. It was a good try, though. I'm sorry your cat ate the dress.

Besides, that was not nearly as bad as the time our lab tried to get on our glass dining table, and shattered it into teeny tiny bits. At 4am...

Your naughty fur child is adorable. He looks pretty satisfied with his efforts! I agree with Brooklyn & Zaeobi. I've had my share of failed alterations in the past, so I sympathize.

What Angie said, I like it from the back- is the front hemmed the same way-cause it doesn't really show up like that? You can always cut&hem it diagonal from one side to the other. Anyway, to save myself the seam-stress I am doing my own and my family's alterations with my own little paws. Probably not perfect,but better then some- easier to experiment and good enough for me-at least I cannot blame anybody for a fail!:-)

Aw man, what a shame because the fit looks so good on you. I'm not sure about that hem treatment though. It looks a little random. I'd be tempted to take it to another tailor to see if it can be redone (again!) to make the whole front and back a complete single continuous line of diagonal hem, rather than the cutout. It looks like there is enough length?

As my friend once joked about pets and kids, "god made them cute so we don't kill them." Your adorable fur child has been forgiven, I'm sure!

I feel like it's almost there! I'm seconding Janet's suggestion of going to a different tailor. But I don't think it needs anymore cut off. I think #2 and #3 show an interesting asymmetrical cut.

I think what your dress needs is some of that weighted hem chain that designers (such as Chanel) sew into the hems of their skirts and jackets, to make them hang properly. I think maybe your ambivalence is because the fabric keeps moving around because it's not heavy enough to sit in one place and hold that interesting shape.

I think the angle of the photos might be confusing some of us....so I don't know about the dress but I love your sandals! And, omg the cat....that's a great photo! Have not (so far) had a cat eat through anything except a wrapper on a food container. Plenty of snagged knitwear though!
