Almost afraid to say it - I think I plugged all my wardrobe holes!

This week, between finally acquiring dress pants and getting some replacement board shorts, I think I filled all my legitimate wardrobe holes. Part of me thinks I just jinxed myself and several glaring holes will appear momentarily! But seriously, what's left now truly falls under the title of wants. Leather jacket; yes it's a very trusty basic, but no, it is not a necessity. Heck, I've gone over 10 years without one recently and been just fine! (Janet may differ with me on this not being a necessity ) Likewise with a bright red cardigan or jacket. I'd like one, I don't *need* one. I believe I can find something nice and appropriate in my closet now for most occasions that spring up in life. My last 2 holes were very occasion specific actually - interview and water sports.
Now, let's see how long until that next little pothole becomes a sinkhole before my very eyes!

congrats Mo! that's really awsome, and I agree about the difference between *wants* and *needs*. do you have a plan for future shopping (I assume that you are still going to buy clothes some time in the future)? you could focus on certain items and be really picky about fit and quality. are all your clothes, shoes and handbags in good shape and fits you? do you have any item in your wardrobe that you hesitate on or should be replaced or are orphans? wow - exciting place to be!

Thanks! Harmonica, I do still have things on my list for the year to buy, but knowing they aren't needs is kinda freeing! You are right, I can now take time to replace things that are wearing out and pick carefully what new things I'm going to add in. My shoes and such actually are in quite good shape. If anything I could use some more accessories but I don't use them as much as I could or should, so I don't focus my purchase dollars there.
I still want that leather jacket and a red sweater, and wine colored jeans, and a sheer striped sweater . . . you get the idea. But do I need any of it? Nope! I could get dressed the rest of the year for about any occasion I could think of. Whoopie!!

Don't say it! I think those words cause holes to develop spontaneously.

I need to remember this as a gauge for wardrobe "holes" - I think I sometimes label things as needs just because I want to replace something I really liked or because I want to save an orphan.

OK, I happen to think that it's a "need" for us to evolve our styles. Therefore wardrobe holes are constantly opening up because we are the type of people who "need" to express our creativity through dressing. How's that for girl logic? Or as MaryK would say, /enable.

Mo - awesome! You are so analytical and practical in your approach but you know what works for you and then weave these beautiful shapes and colors into your closet. You deserve to have some fun and playtime and not having to fill holes so kudos to you.

Oh Christieanne, you give me too much credit! Thanks I did spend some time really trying to buy with a plan this last year or two, and it didn't take the fun out of it for me surprisingly. My old way of buying what I was attracted to at that moment at a price I liked wasn't helping me manage my wardrobe - I was simply accumulating clothing.
I know I'm not 'done'. No one is ever done. Styles change, things wear out. But to know I have it under control is pretty great feeling, I will admit

Thats fantastic. Are you planning on a clothing budget now or something like one item a month or are you just not really going to think too much about it and buy if/when something jumps at you?

Cheryl, I'm going to continue with my $1000 budget for this year (about $83 a month). The difference is, I won't be so hot on the heels of hunting down things. I have only about twenty bucks left for June anyway lol.
So that leaves $500 for the rest of the year . . . and I have been wanting a leather jacket for a while now hee hee!

Ahem, you *do* need a leather jacket. Especially now that you're back in Tahoe and not FL. I promise, I haven't bought them all up yet.

I think my only wardrobe hole right now is a new pair of loungey casual pants that can also leave the house for errands or ultra casual days. I had a pair of Prana linen blend pants that just got too big and baggy as I lost weight, and I miss them. Most of what's out there has big patch pockets in unflattering places. Oh, and I'm due for new running shoes in the next month or so.

Other than that, I have a multitude of everything I need. In fact, I think it's time for another mini purge!

Janet, funny, one of my hole plugs included purple prAna foldover yoga pants for my lounge capsule. Got them just yesterday lol. I had gotten rid of 2 older pairs of prAna's that were too big this spring. Great minds think alike!
Also coincidentally, the BF is buying me replacement running shoes for my birthday once we get to a store where I can try some on for size! I've had mine for 4+ years now and they are way overdue.
(and you can bet I'll be looking for a leather jacket now that I don't feel I need all these other things first!)
