Allsaints snap-collar sweater

Sorry to be a forum hog. But I’d like your feedback.

First of all, Allsaints is brilliant to order from for US customers who use Amazon — you can use Amazon checkout and shipping was super fast.

It’s challenging to get decent pics of a black top, but I tried. I just put it on with cuffed straight leg jeans and black boots for a very simple attempt at styling. I was pleasantly surprised to see the neckline works without showing bra straps when worn this way —
I don’t think the Flashdance styling is for me.

It’s voluminous, but also a bit shorter in the body than I expected (odd because I’m short in the torso). I like where the slightly curved banded hem hits me, but when I reach or put my arms up, it does need tugging down afterward, and I don’t love that. I’m wondering if it’s worth trying a size up, or whether that will just be too much shirt on me. It clearly meant to be roomy but I don’t want unflattering. Give it to me straight — try another size or let it go and return it? There are a lot of black shirts in the world so I won’t be hurt if y’all think this is not the best on me. It’s not my usual silhouette but I don’t mind a roomy top sometimes as long as there is structure somewhere, which I think the waist and lower sleeve fit provide.

Side note: I have just discovered this is being sold at discount on the Nordstrom Rack site, so I could try a different size from there. Allsaints is offering 25% off but the Rack deal is even better.

Opinions? (I’m sure it would look better with styled hair and makeup, sorry for the disheveled appearance)

It doesn’t look bad, but it doesn’t thrill me either - so I’d vote return since you’d have to fuss with it after reaching. I think a size up would still be short enough to need tugging, just with more volume.

It looks that annoying word “fine”, I feel- quite roomy already, so I hesitate about a larger size?
I guess you look so fantastic in so many of your pics, it makes this one look more ordinary. But in the past, sometimes when you’ve worked harder on styling something to show us, we then all decide it looks wonderful. So maybe that could happen here?!

I think it looks great! The length looks right to my eye and that's my "sweet spot" when it comes to purchasing tops, or even a bit shorter if I'm going to wear a top with a skirt usually. But I don't usually reach up above my head for things routinely (my days of stocking shelves at a store are behind me, thankfully!), so that length of top works well for me. If you find that it feels fussy or would bother you as you go about your daily life, then definitely pass.

ETA: I think lightweight knits with a banded bottom like this top can sort of "bounce" up and down with movement more readily that a woven or heavier banded sweater or sweatshirt, IYKWIM? And there are lots of black tops in the world, so if it doesn't feel right, onward (as Angie says). But in terms of giving it to you straight on how it looks, I think it looks fab :).

I have a sweater that requires this tugging back down and I resent it - the sweater , that is This is a nice top ; do you need it to fill a hole or for something specific though ?

I tried this on yesterday when I was already rushed and tired from the sandal marathon. So, just now I took a few minutes to try it on with some bootcut jeans (1-4), my Dre burgundy jeans (5-8), and just for grins even the joggers I’m wearing at home today (9-11) but not those shoes — I was just wearing them around to confirm comfort. For some reason, the top seems to be playing better with these pants, or something. Maybe these are a slightly higher rise, which can make a big difference with a slightly cropped length top. It shifts a little bit but settles and I don’t feel like I’m having to tug it. Here are some pics. The dogs are getting restless — it must be near dinner time.

Looks nice but not sure it’s fabutastic. Depends on what you need. But also, it’s harder to assess black clothing in photos.
I have huge trouble with banded - bottom/ welt tops. Only can wear with super high- waisted, smooth skirts or pants. Or the band bottom has to be sort of stiff or not too fitted, so will slide.
So will be up to you re: the functionality, annoyance factor if any, versatility of it.

It fits you well. Hard to see all the details but from your photos I think it’s a nice sweater in current style but not exactly edgy. The question is do you love it?

I’m the same way with white shirts - if it fits well, I’m inclined to buy instead of waiting for something outstanding

I think it looks really good! I don’t think you should size up. I think this length can be very useful for wearing with skirts. Try it with your Fuzzi skirt.

I’m not a huge fan of bat wings because they are usually hard to layer under jackets. (No problem with the aesthetic.) Something to consider/try out to make sure you are happy with it.

Looks better in the second set of photos, for sure.

Well, I really like it. I like the fit and the shoulder detail.

Try it with some skirts.

Personally, I love shorter pullovers, and prefer them most of the time because of high waist bottoms, and some skirts. I love welted and banded bottoms. Fab bit of structure. BUT! They have to be just long enough that I'm not tugging, so by all means pass if it's a fuss. Make sure you can layer over the dolman sleeve too.

I like that it is the not the usual crew-neck tee and has little details like the shoulder like the shoulder and sleeve details plus the banded waist. Only you can decide if it says or goes back.

I like it quite a lot - it hits a good spot between drape and structure, which is not as easy as it sounds. For example with the joggers - despite both the top and bottom being loose the welted waist gives you a great shape and the effect is very flattering (to my eye). The drop sleeves fit your actual shoulders so no problem with too wide or too narrow. And so on. That said, I hate tops that ride up during the day.

I love it Janet! I feel like the high waisted trend means that tops are being cut shorter to highlight it. So, if you are comfortable with it with your higher waisted jeans, then I vote keep and wear it in that pairing. But if it's going to drive you bonkers, then return.

I quite like it! Kind of simple but with some fun details like the batwing and sleeves. I agree that if you have to tug at it that would be annoying but if you are comfortable with it I say keep.

I love it! I especially like it with the track pants. A larger size would be too, too big, I think.

I hear you on the shortness, because my AllSaints sweater with snaps down the front (or back) is that kind of length, too. For short-waisted me, it's nice to have some tops that are actually short enough. But I also wear a cami under mine, which makes it less problematic if I accidentally hike up the sweater. (Mine also has a huge, open cowl neck, which I wouldn't wear without an underpinning.) I feel it's more comfortable now than when I originally bought it, when I was wearing lower-rise jeans.

Gigi, those jeans are the DL1961 Coco cut— see Find. I’ve had them for a couple of years now and they are great. I think they run a little generous in size.
