All-the-time heels?

I do look better in heels, though a low heel is more comfortable. But I was raised in a sneakers and sandals world--flat, that is. Like something sporty you would wear to walk by the river.

I know there are people who wear a low heel all the time, or by default. Mostly for comfort, but some for fashion. I am interested in encouraging myself to pick more low heels on a daily basis. I just look better.

If you were going to pick one or two types of low heels that you could wear all the time, what are they? Or you can list more, if you want. I am interested in knowing which low heels I can run around town in all day. Preferably something also kind of cute.

Can be individual branded shoes, or general categories. Thanks.

When I wore heels for work, I wore Naturalizers. When I was pregnant I switched to flats. After my baby was born, I never went back to heels. I was quite good at my job, and men never wore uncomfortable shoes, so if my not wearing heels was a thing, then so be it. I was never fired, written up or talked to about my footwear.

I wear heels less and less now. Partly there are lots of amazing flats which I like, partly age, and partly my concern over foot health.

I can wear a low block heel boot or sandal all day comfortably or a low wedge. Anything higher than that and it’s an occasion option for me.

I think some people do better with a flat shoe and others with a slight elevation. There seem to be different views out there.

I also wore Naturalizer 1-2 inch block heels for work, or flats. Sneakers and boots on weekends.

You might look at Kork-ease. I wore them (as did everyone else in high school) way back in the 70’s. They may appeal to your sense of the 60’s-70’s.

I wear block heels under 2” high. These are the most comfortable for me and I can walk a distance if the shoes fit well. I used to like kitten heels but don’t find them stable enough post my 2022 injury.

Cobb Hill make some low-heeled styles that people say are comfortable but I haven’t tried them. People also SAY that Fluevog heels are comfortable but while I love them, I cannot wear them “running around town.” I own and love the shoes in the first pic, enough to get them in multiple colors, but I wouldn’t wear them more than around the office and 5-10 minutes to get lunch and back. I think I walked two miles in them once but it HURT.
The second pic are probably my most comfortable heels but again, I probably wouldn’t wear them if I planned to be running around all day.

These sandals feature my favorite type of heel. Two inches or less and a block style. I have found this style of heel can dress up or down easily. And I can and have walked all day in these sandals/heels. My favorite heeled shoe brands are Ecco and Rockport. Both have nice cushion around the ball of the foot and generally a wider shape toe box.

Also these heeled booties, I have them in three colors because the heel is perfect. I have worn them all day including for long days of airport travel and they are great.

I really can't wear even a low heel on a regular basis but enjoy looking at them anyway. Good luck!

Don’t invite foot problems!!! That being said, I would start with so-called comfort brands and read a lot of reviews, especially on barkingdogs.com. Keep in mind that some heels are better balanced than others so that they don’t feel so high like the boots that Griffin just bought at NAS.

I love block heels, platforms, and flatforms. I try to keep heels to 2”, though I have some platforms that are slightly higher. They work just fine for me because the platform is so stable.

Flats are generally wretchedly uncomfortable with my long, narrow, flat feet. I can walk right out of any flat unless it’s a strapped sandal.

I look everywhere for shoes, but I have had some success with Cole Hahn, Paul Green, Pikolinos (had to size up), Taos, and Born. Josef Seibel has worked in the past but sadly I’m between sizes now with that brand.

I like platforms and flatforms for heels. I agree some outfits just look better with a heel. That said some look better with a flat.

I too like the look of heels, but honestly, they are never going to be as comfy as flatter shoes which I mainly wear.

For me, boots are the comfiest heels. The cream boot has a bit of a heel, but it is tempered by the platform, so I get height without throwing my weight onto the ball of my feet, these are my favourite shoes this winter and get worn almost daily!
The black boot has a bit of a platform and a good solid wedge heel - comfier than a thin heel and worn when I want to be a bit more dressed up.

For pumps, I find there is quite a bit of support with the loafer (also a platform and solid heel) and for dressy occasions my going out shoes tie at the ankle and also have a solid heel. I also have some basic black heels, which are OK for a few hours on my feet at a cocktail party.

My summer heels are typically a wedge with a platform.

When I throw caution to the wind, I wear the pink glitter heels. Fun when going on a girls night out to dinner and not too much standing involved!

I find that block heels, wedges and not-too-extreme platforms make heels much easier to wear.

Below are some of my heels that I can wear for hours comfortably. None are extreme except for the platform on those Chloe sandals, but even those are surprisingly comfortable!

I just wore the grey Sorel sandals all day yesterday and they remain super comfortable and are several years old. I’ve thought about duplicating them in another color.

I agree, block heels, platforms and some wedge heels as long as they aren't very high could be okay for short wears, but the toe box is also an important consideration as well. Too narrow and pointy can lead to bunions and other foot issues down the road.

12 years ago, when I first joined YLF, I wore heels as high as 3 inches. I worked in an office and either drove to work in a car or commuted on a bike and changed at work. A couple of years latter we moved, and I became a commuter and a walker. Heels got lower, and pretty flats worked. Either I became deconditioned to wearing heels or something changed (around age 57) and anything over 1 inch became intolerable.

I recently ‘settled’ for a pair of dressy boots with a 2 inch heel after a several years search. I gave them two seasons, but in the end passed them on due to discomfort and a sense of instability.

Naturalizer brand is my ‘go to’ for a dressy low heel, but I’m still looking for the perfect pair of low heeled dressy boots!

I wear 4-6cm (~2in) heels all day for work, even if the agenda of the day involves a lot of walking. But I have fussy feet and not all shoes are equal: different pairs from the same brand and a similar heel shape may not all enable me to wear them all day.

Like several previous commenters, the shoes that most commonly fit for that purpose are block-heeled booties. The two pairs in Finds below are workhorses.
Special mention for the two non-booties among the Finds below :
- all wedges from spanish brand Sarahworld allowed me to run errands in town all day, but it seems like the brand does not exist anymore.
- and then there are those pumps from Rockport, with a 7cm (2,7in) very thin heel, which are incredibly comfortable. Rockport shoes are not so easy to find in France, so I don't know if all their pumps are like that!

JAileen--Naturalizer--I remember them. I have not looked in a while, so maybe I will try that again. I know that some companies used to require heels for women. Don't know if this is still a thing. I hope not!
Sal--I think you are right--some people like flats, and some like heels. I suspect I may be a heel person, but I am not sure.
Sloper--I did look up Kork-ease when you mentioned it--they really do have cute stuff. I may have to try it.
Irina--lots of people mention block heels. I know I have had ankle boots like that, but I don't know if I have tried them all day.
Cookie--I do like that second photo, and they look quite comfortable! As long as the leather does not dig into the top of your foot. But maybe like, a bootie works better for me, I don't know.

Lise--good point, although I find I have to try harder to make my legs, etc. look good with flats.
Bijou--I love how fun and distinctive all your shoes are! I had, in high school, some platform heel loafers like yours--mine were brown. Wore them all the time. I love, too, your ankle tie heels. I forget that a tie can be helpful.
Janet--like I just told Bijou--I love how distinctive and fun your shoes are. I especially love your boots, which appear to be a comfort zone for me in the low-heel world.
Dee--probably true, but a couple of the most comfortable low heels I had were little witchy shoes from Payless, who made better shoes at the "high end." The toe box was small, but somehow felt roomy.

Carla--those certainly are cute shoes. I did not realize Naturalizer made such cute shoes. Certainly they would be great for commuting, if they work!
Aurore--those all look nice, and I think you are the first person to expressly prefer booties, which is also my comfort zone. I would also love to "run" around in those Rockport heels!

What I’ve landed on isn’t a heel so much as it is the essence of a heel. A sling back pump! With a pointier toe which for me brings the elegance or dressiness of a heel without the pain point. Might have a small block heel, maybe an inch. Dresses up jeans. Allows my trousers to be elevated tho I do wear trousers with fashion sneakers.

Barkingdogshoes.com (my bad for not checking the web site before I posted) is a web site that specializes in reviews and recommending shoes for women with various foot problems like flat feet, PF, bunions, etc. It has a section on comfy heels, many of which are even cute!!!

I checked my shoes. I have 35 pairs, of which 6 pairs have a heel higher than 2 inches (I measured). All 6 pairs are my least worn shoes, but I have worn 1 of the pairs this year briefly and 1 last year, for short, not-walking-much occasions. I find it a problem even going out to dinner in a heel if there is a walk from where the car is parked. I just try to choose attractive comfortable low heels or flats.

Another vote for Naturalizer, the heels are ussually low, block, and lots of support. I find I can move fastest in my sneakers and find they're dressy enough now for most occasions.

Jenni, Lynne--I also find myself not using much my higher heels. I have a sexy, flattering pair of black strappy ones, but usually find something more comfortable. I did just get my first pair of blocky, black Naturalizer pumps, and I am excited to take those for a spin.
