I've always had a problem with mascara making my eyes itch and I just found out why. With my colouring I wear a brown mascara and it is quite possibly the red dye in the brown colouring. Same brand I will react to two different tubes differently and that is quite possible as the dye might be a bit more in one than the other.
In comes fake lashes. While I have never ever worn them before I have to say they are a blessing. I am able to wear them all day with no itching at all. We used the lashes that are all on one strip and the style called natural. 3 or so lashes with a space then 3 or so more, etc. A little longer than my regular lashes but not by much.
NO MASCARA at all, just the lashes and oh boy wonderful.
So if you have this problem it might be worth a try.

That is an interesting idea. I would not be able to put on false eyelashes. It sounds like you have become a pro at this. I only wear black mascara and have not had any problems. I would love to sometimes wear false lashes though.

I have fine, thin, very blonde eyelashes and some days I love my false eyelashes!

Actually no pro here, I had them done. Had to go out and get new make up for son's wedding and this came up. Need to go out and get more glue so I can try it on my own.
I have older deep set, hooded eyes and just this one thing was amazing.

I like the look of false eyelashes but not the glue. So, I experimented with magnetic lashes. I could never get them quite right despite watching numerous tutorials and implementing several 'hacks'. But it was fun and I'm still laughing about it.

My friend had lash extensions professionally done. They look beautiful but it's quite expensive and time consuming as you need to go every two to three weeks to have a fill.

Would love to know more about how you make out. The glue makes me nervous but I would love to have longer lashes (mine are short) and I too have hooded eyes.

Mascara and I had a love hate relationship so I surrendered.
But now I hear they have magnetic eyelashes. No glue needed.

Freckles, are they permanent false lashes or the kind you pop on and remove every day? I was thinking about false lashes too as mine are so short I cannot even curl them - get the eyelid pinched instead, but just a thought about the glue on my eyes makes ne cringe and shy away...

I have a gala to go to in 3 weeks - maybe I will give these false lashes a try for fun (the glue ones)...if I am brave enough. I am afraid to remove my own lashes with the false ones in the end and I cannot afford this

Popping back in from lurking status... I don't wear false eyelashes often, but I do occasionally (the glue kind). They take some practice to apply, and I should practice more than I do, but I've learned a few things along the way. And as long as you get proper eyelash glue from a reputable company, the glue is pretty safe... I don't recommend smearing it in your eyes, but small mistakes aren't going to hurt you. I've flubbed it plenty of times and halfway stuck my eyelids together (briefly!), and it was just fine. The glue is tacky, but not permanently sticky like actual glue. It won't tear off your eyelashes.

A couple of tips from my experience:

They come in a huge variety of lengths, thicknesses, shapes, and drama-levels. Play around to figure out which ones give you the effect you want. Mine are long enough that they bump against sunglasses (not awful, but a little uncomfortable), which is a factor to consider.
Trim the lashes (width-wise) to fit your eyes, if they're too long initially. Too-wide lashes are going to poke you at the corners, and that's pretty uncomfortable.
Spend a little time flexing them so they're not so stiff and they bend more easily to fit your lash line.
I sometimes curl my natural lashes and always put mascara on *before* applying the false lashes, because my natural lashes are fairly light and straight and don't blend well with the false lashes otherwise.
Put a thin line of eyelash glue on the base of the lashes and then... wait. Wait longer than you think you need to. I mean it. The glue doesn't stick when it's wet-wet... you want it to dry enough that it's tacky. Trying to apply the lashes with wet glue is an exercise in frustration.
Clean the glue off as best you can (I just peel it off by hand, taking care not to damage the lashes) after use and you can re-use them a number of times.

Freckles, you've reminded me that I keep meaning to try false lashes. One of these days. These wouldn't help you (with dye issues), but I've had two "aha" moments myself with mascara:

1. For everyday, a primer (L'oreal luminous) under my regular mascara prevents the mascara from giving me raccoon eyes (but my mascara still comes off with Cetaphil soap and water). It's magic.

2. For strenuous activities (when I want to look nice), Blinc tubing mascara. It can't smear (by definition). I wore this for an ocean swim event and have used it in triathlons and it lasted well. (I don't bother with mascara for most outdoor activities but it's nice to look good in the race photos ) I don't wear it everyday as it is pricey ($26!) but I am careful to seal it closed and I've had my tube for at least 8 months.

I just bought a pair of the magnetic ones yesterday - upon recommendation from a makeup artist/cosmetician friend. They weren't expensive, so I'm not worried if they turn out to be a fail.

The magnetic ones sound interesting but I cannot use magnets so out for me.
Sveta these are real lashes that you put on and remove every day. I got them for 6.49 from Shoppers Drug Mart so not a real investment and perfect for my needs. Not sure the price of the glue as haven't been out to get it yet.
The cosmetician recommended them due to my problem with mascara and that I would probably have a lot of tears at our son's wedding. I really love them as they are very natural looking but I have long dark lashes myself. I find they really open up my eyes.
