I am on the oxford bandwagon because it combines updating with a type of shoe my feet like. Thought I would post some photos in case others are looking for similar.
I was in the market for something like a “summer oxford” but with some ambivalence on my wardrobe focus. I want to wear them with shorts and summer skirts as an alternative to open-toe sandals, but also would like to wear them with pants in khaki-colors. The more nude the color, the better with bare, pale legs (which are not for work), but a bit warmer color works better with some pants I have in khaki colors, which I do wear to work. Also, while colored soles or trims are fun, they would limit me for work.
The Naya oxford took me awhile to get because I had to re-order downsized. At the same time I had a mental lapse or something and ordered the AGL oxford .
#1 is my feet with one of each shoe--Naya on true left foot.
#2 is the AGL with lace skirt. The AGL is lovely and more refined and mostly quite comfortable, but actually may not fit as well as I’d like. It’s good for my mostly narrow feet but may not be as wide as I need right through the bunion zone. I believe it will “give” but that may not be a good thing if molds around foot shape there. Aslo the color while paler may skew more yellow than ideal (see, I can find things wrong!) I also have the sense that this shoe is less tolerant of looking the least bit scuffed or broken-in and so feels too “precious” for my purpose and my budget for this item. Or I might feel too protective to enjoy them.
# 3 is a different skirt--problems with that outfit BTW but it shows the Naya still with the ribbon laces, which I would like to replace. The fit is better through the widest part of my foot. Of note is that both pairs, even the narrower AGL, have to be laced to almost overlapping which is not ideal but is true for many oxfords I try. It is darker but works better with pants.
#4 is a color pants I'd wear and ideally in different style.
I also tried on a Cole-Hahn in their store when out in CA last week. It fit pretty well, was chunkier for skirts but fine with pants, and one of my concerns was the buff one, which was the one I’d get, had orange soles, which are fun but are less versatile for the price.
At 1/3 the cost of the AGL, and for not being a true “work” workhorse, I think I may go with the Naya. I could try the taupe version if I have the patience to deal with returning. It seemed not as much in my summer color palette as the more golden colors but would be a paler color.
Or I could keep looking. I could also use a much more inexpensive Naya-looking shoe just for skirts/shorts but haven't seen one I like. I was also on the lookout for a more summery low-heeled oxford that isn't black, but goes with black pants, but isn't too attention-getting--maybe a subtle 2-tone and not a super-snappy colorblock.
This was an interesting "exercise". The AGL is not as likely to be a feel-good purchase for me unless it's a workhorse shoe and would hold up to several years of wear ( and bring me breakfast in bed and do my laundry).
Anybody else trying to get all of their "wants" in one shoe?
