Hi guys!

Yesterday I ran into TJ Maxx and saw this really cute faux leather bomber jacket ... with a faux fur lined hood.

I truly heart this jacket... yet, I'm wondering if it's age appropriate. I'm 37 and honestly, I don't want to look like one of my teenage son's friends. Unfortunately, my digital camera has died, so I don't have a picture of this wonderful jacket but this one is sorta similar (okay, except it's not black and it doesn't have the cool double zippers or... yeah, this jacket is basically leather with a fur lined hood... lol).

I'm 36 going on 37 and if this was my style I would totally wear it.You can make it look polished with a great pair of grownup boots.
If you pair it with sneakers you might be entering younger territories, but no boy for sure.

But here is a question for you: Do we always have to look 36?7 year old moms?

I would totally wear this jacket. Celia's advice is spot on. It's not what you wear but how you wear it... make sure it fits you perfectly and wear it in a sophisticated way with PPL jeans or jeggings tucked into boots.

I have a somewhat cropped black bomber style winter jacket with faux fur hood similar to this. I am 41 and comfortable wearing it in my ski resort town environment back home. Go for it! But yes, leave off any other 'teen like' trappings and I'm sure you'll rock it stylishly

Thanks for the encouragement guys! I never thought a lot about looking age appropriate until my son entered high school (last year); he thought it was quite hilarious that I was shorter than most of the girls he knew and thought it was great fun to try and tell his friends I was his sister! On one hand, this is flattering, but when I go to high school functions, I don't WANT to look like one of the kids. I'm pretty happy in my skin, FINALLY, so I want to wear 37 proudly.

Besides, in the area we live in, it's embarrassing to see how many want to be trendy women have plastic surgeried themselves into looking like ageless zombies... nothing like seeing a 50-something woman aging ungracefully by trying to keep up with the 20-somethings.

Being 5' tall, I struggle with this too. The key is clothes that fit perfectly, in the correct proportions and in better fabrics.This will set you apart from the teenagers pretty quickly.

Heh. Given that I just had a little nip/tuck myself, you should take this with a grain of salt, but...

I am 52 and would totally wear this jacket with a fab cashmere sweater, skinny jeans, and a pair of knockout boots.

Oh MaryK, I've seen you-- you might have nipped/tucked to improve but you certainly ARE NOT trying to look like a 20-something! There's a big difference and you are on the right side of it totally!

(Also, sorry if that offended anyone... I do believe it's one thing to take care of yourself and a completely different thing to try to freeze time.)

Shauntelle, I'm with you. I saw an article titled "The New 50" talking about how young 50 could look, and then went on to detail all the head-to-toe surgery the model had to get that way. A little maintenance is different than a full overhaul to the point where nothing about you is yourself.

And not worrying too much about age-appropriateness is part of staying young at heart! I say go for it.

I have 2 faux leather moto style jackets in non-traditional colors, a navy to the coolish purple side and a deep green. I'm 5 feet tall and used to look loads younger when I was younger and only somewhat younger now:
63. I don't want to wear Come 'N' Get It (teasing) clothes but otherwise to me a style is a style and any style that is widely seen is something people's eyes are used to so their first thought would be One of Those Jackets vs. She Thinks She's a Teenager.

No offense taken, Shauntelle! And believe me, I am no lover of obvious cosmetic surgery! We have a box at the Hollywood Bowl and some of the frozen faces in the surrounding boxes are just plain scary!! I find it's especially obvious and offputting when people start getting into the mouth-plumping! Yikes!!

I don't think this jacket looks specifically young. I think someone in her 40s could also wear it.

I don't think it is too young but I do think it is casual, a leather jacket without the hood may be more versatile and cover casual, smart casual and possibly business casual occassions. However you may be looking for a casual jackt in which case I say wear it with pride.

Pencil skirt and heels, and you'll look mighty sophisticated. (Tank top and chucks, not so much... ;>)

I like the jacket and it never occurred to me that a leather jacket wouldn't be age appropriate until you mentioned it. I don't hang around any high school kids though and it's currently too warm here for jackets, so maybe I'm just behind the times. I agree with other members here that almost anything can be age appropriate depending on how it's worn.

I think it's fine as long as you don't pair it with sweatpants sporting text across the butt. ; )
