Age appropriate clothes

I just turned 33 yesterday. I feel like Gap and Old Nay is mostly out of my age range now. So what are some stores that I can trust are more geared toward the 30 something woman?

Oh, I'm 5' and 106 right now. So I try hard not to dress like a kid, yk?

Have you tried stores like Banana Republic, JCrew, or Nordstrom? I shop at those stores fairly consistently. I'm 27, but I think those stores are very appropriate for you. For what it's worth, I do shop at Gap and sometimes Old Navy still for basics.

Other stores that I recommend if they are available to you are Zara, Mango and Express, which are more trendy, and Ann Taylor Loft. If you're comfortable posting some pictures of yourself (you can cover your face), in outfits that you like as well as in outfits that you think might be too "youthful", we can help with more specific suggestions. It'll help us get a sense of what your style and preferences are like.

Oh, geesh. A picture? Well, none of my clothes fit right now. I'm 2 months post partum so my normal clothes that would show my style don't fit. Right now I'm wearing yoga pants (at home only!) and I bought one pair of cheap jeans for leaving the house. I really need clothes that fit me right now. I'll save my pre-pg clothes for later when (if) I get back to that size.

So I can post a picture but it will be in my transition clothes. You want a picture of me in yoga pants or my one pair of $10 jeans?

Actually, your yoga pants and a form fitting top would be best anyway. If you keep your arms down by your sides and take a full body, face-on photo (you can block your face if you want), we could have a look and see what body type you are. Then it's a lot easier to make specific suggestions for you.

Great attitude, by the way! You especially want to feel good about yourself right now with a new baby. So getting a few things that fit and flatter you will go a long way in that, I think. Congratulations on the baby!

Wow, you have an absolutely incredible figure for someone who has just had a baby ( or very nice figure in general). I think that you are a hourglass and you should read Angie's posts on that body type. All the stores mentioned so far would be great. I can also suggest Benetton, H&M, Club Monaco and French Connection.

I'm in my thirties and also like Ann Taylor Loft. Sometimes I check out New York and Company, but its pretty hit or miss for me and the pants are always too long.

It depends on what you're looking for: do you want to fill out your work or home wardrobe? What's the dress code at work? My work is business casual so a lot of the clothes that get linked here are too casual for that. But I shop at Target, ON, Ann Taylor, Banana, Gap, Talbots, for now and I'll be adding j Crew and Nordstrom soon enough.

You look terrific, by the way. You'll be filling out your wardrobe in no time!

I stay at home and homeschool my kiddos. So I don't need work clothes for an office. My clothes need to be easy to move in and easy to clean.

I did a search for "hourglass" and there were 10+ pages of posts. Is there a simplified way to narrow it down?

I wouldn't necessarily rule out places like GAP and ON. I'm 51 and I shop at GAP for certain basics. They have good prices (especially when there's a sale) for things like layering t-shirts and cardigans. I just avoid the really bright colors and anything that's too frilly or super trendy.

A lot of women here love J. Crew. I don't find their clothes are cut well for my body, but they might work for you.

I love Ann Taylor for jackets and knit tops for slightly smarter outfits, and they also have t-shirts that are a bit of a step up from basic. I think that AT Loft tends to have trendier looks and brighter colors, and the prices are also a bit lower.

You do have a great figure!

To celebrate my birthday, I'm going on a little shopping spree tomorrow. The shopping center has a Dillards, Macy's, Express, J. Jill, and Talbots. That's all I can think of off the top of my head. My husband used to work for Talbots, but I haven't shopped there since he changed jobs and we no longer have the discount.

Hi KH, I just want to add that at 40, I still shop at Gap and I don't think I dress too young for my age. Actually, I think Gap does not cater to the very young--they don't even carry junior sizes. But of course there is a whole world of stores out there--you dont have to limit yourself to the Gap. But don't rule it out either.

I think Dillards and Macy's are going to be your best bet on your shopping trip. Happy Birthday and good luck--oh and HAVE FUN!

My shopping day is over and I survived. It's not easy shopping with an four boys ages 8, 5, 2 months, and 37!

and a pair of jeans from Penny's. I also bought a pair of brown leather wedges.

I saw this and loved it but it is not in my budget.

I was frustrated with sizes. I'm not caught up in a "size." I just wish they were standradized. The pants from J.Jill are a 2, the St John's Bay jeans are a 6 and yet both fit me. I tried on a pair of Levi's in a 4 and they were huge and baggy. Talk about crazy sizing.

Those pants are a great find kh. Will you post pics of your new finds on? The size discrepancy is very frustrating. Means you have to take a zillion of each style into the changing rooms!!
