Again with the hair - ETA day 2

I have been sporting some variation of 4&5 since giving up on the curlier look several months ago. The flat ironed style is just SO much easier for me. (Edited to delete self indulgent whine..)
Decided to give the curls another try today just for the heck of it.

I’m leaving the house in this hair.....

Day 2 - photos 6-9 after spritzing with Devacurl Mis-ter Right, diffusing and touching up a couple of spots with the curling iron. It looks matted and frizzy to me. Any suggestions or thoughts? Thanks!

Be a rebel. Wear the curls. Fabulous and younger, more modern than straight to my eye.

I can't believe straight is easier... doesn't it take a lot of time and work to straighten? I am biased, since I think I'm looking at my own texture in these photos, but I like curly too. When moms talk like that, it's time to ignore moms.

Your curly hair is beautiful.Many people would pay a lot of money in the salon to try and get hair like that.Re Mothers comments.Stuff like this is usually nothing to do with you more to do with what’s going on in mother’s head but it still hurts none the less,try and rise above it.l would love to have hair like yours curly or straight.

Cardiff Girl is right. A comment like that has more to do with what is going on in her own head than with you. I am sorry you had to hear it though. It is the type of thing that can weigh on you. Best wishes.

Your wavy/curly hair is gorgeous. It is an ideal cut and beautifully showcases the color. Your mother is wrong. I can imagine how terribly those remarks stung.

Your hair is fantastic and healthy and polished either way you wear it. You are fortunate that it does both curly and straight so well.

I wish I had some Mom advise for you because from experience I know these cruelties stick with you... and I always want people to feel better.

Your curls are gorgeous. I like it straight too--you have a good cut and body.

My mom spent so much time trying to get my absolutely straight fine hair to curl. Perms only made it frizzy. When I was in 8th grade and attended an end of year ceremony my mom was mad and said I looked like a witch because my hair went straight. When I went up to get an award from the principal, she told everyone that I was beautiful!

Left for work right after posting so am now seeing comments - thanks for the encouragement! The curls are not something I ever tried prior to last year. Forum members were kind enough to offer product suggestions when I first tried this out.
To answer Lesley’s question, I flat iron once and can just touch up spots as needed. Some days I can comb and go.
I feel like a big baby still carrying my mom’s comment around, especially since she has dementia, but, she has always had a ‘thing’ about overweight people. So when friends say it ‘wasn’t her talking’ - I feel it was it was but she no longer has the filter to hold back.

I tuned in too late to see what your mum said, but please don't take it to heart. Going through dementia with a loved one is so incredibly hurtful already, and a comment like that can take far to long to unpack and let go.

What I DO know is that I love your hair. It is beautifully curly! Oh, how we wish for the things we do not have. My hair is straight and I have wanted curly hair my entire life...

Your hair looks gorgeous curled. Indeed, I pay good money and spend three excruciating hours at the salon to get it only half as good :).
I have hang-ups about my (natural) hair being too flat. But I count myself lucky no one was ever really pushy about it to me, so my choice to have it permed at the moment (a style I personally find much easier on an everyday basis) still feels very much like that: MY choice, at this specific time in life when I feel the style is also very current.

pil - I think it looks great day 2! Do you have one of those big wide tooth combs? That's what I use often to touch up curls without creating a frizzy look.

I would say day 1 looks a bit better, but not by much. Hardly any frizz and not matted, just a bit less fluffy (like only a fresh wash gives you). Often, I think we’re scrutinizing or own hair way more than others do. They probably don’t notice any difference from a normal distance.
