Again with looking for outfit to wear to wedding

Sorry to be a bother again. I'm driving myself nuts with this. The wedding is the last weekend in August and my original hope was to find a blouse for my pink Halogen pencil skirt. Like a twofer that can be worn with other pieces. I don't feel like I need another dress but have one here that I thought could be fairly versatile down the road.

All pieces are from Dobbin Clothing. I love the color of the dress on me but am not sure of the fit - it isn't smooth over the shoulders in back and I wonder if it emphasizes my sway back? Also there is a slight flaw at the point of the neckline (the last picture) and there are no more in my size. Not to mention how the weather that time of year can vary and sleeves might be too warm. It's always something :\

The silk blouses look too casual for a wedding I'm afraid - do you agree? Though I am considering keeping one anyway as I like them with the white jeans. The blue charmeuse is a size smaller than the taupe crepe de chine. I prefer the lighter feel of the taupe crepe de chine.

Any thoughts you would care to offer? Thanks a bunch!

I think the dress is a pretty good fit for your sway back I see no problems there, but it is just a bit wide across your mid back and shoulders. There is just a bit of excess fabric. The rest of the dress fits very well from what I can tell. Could you get it tailored? I like both of the silky shirts on you, very much. They look good with your white jeans.

Oh, and the minor flaw on the dress looks to be a stitch that has taken up a little too much fabric and is bunching slightly. It is very minor though. Do you feel that it shows up a lot IRL?

pil, I'll be honest and say the dress looks like it might be warm to wear. If you feel you will wear it in fall/winter maybe? What about something like the silk tee here with that skirt?

Thanks, Diane. My uneducated guess is tailoring the back of the dress would be fairly involved. It has top stitched princess seams that start at the seamed waistline and arc toward the shoulders. Though I suppose it could be taken in at the zipper seam.

I thought of you the other day while at a festival at our local museum. There were various artists and crafters there but I was most taken by a woman who made gorgeous coats. Which is what made me think of you.

pil, I'm living vicariously through others since I'm on SYC. You wanted sleeves, right? I figure silk is good for summer and for dressier occasions.

Of course these are mainly *if* you wanted to consider the skirt or other bottoms.

Pil, what about the other two dresses Angie posted? I think they would be perfect. I think that the one you're wearing in the first photo might work - how cool does it get in your neck of the woods by the end of August? Here that would be fall weather.

I feel your pain regarding dresses for weddings. At least your wedding isn't until the end of August - I have a wedding to go to in less than two weeks, and I still am not sure what I'm wearing. The Ted Baker became available again in my size so I ordered it, but I fear it's too dressy for the wedding I'm going to - this wedding is outdoor casual with a clambake reception.

Karie, the weather can be all over the place here that time of year. It might be in the 80's or it might be cold. I do like the other dresses Angie linked to, but my size is gone for those as well. But, the silhouettes are a place to start. I was hoping to wear the pencil skirt because it is a happy color and my logic was adding a top rather than a dress made more sense with my overall wardrobe. Maybe not! I hope the Ted Baker dress works for you - can't wait to see the pics!

Pil, I love the silk blouses on you, especially the camel, and I hope you will keep. But I don't think they would be right for the wedding.

The dress is also really nice on you, despite the issues, but I suspect it would be too warm for that time of year.

I will tell you this: event shopping for one top can be what Angie would call a "mare." I had to shop for a simple shell top last year in ivory or white and it caused me the devil of a time. I did eventually find one -- but by that time I had already bought a dress!

I would continue the search on both fronts. A dress has many advantages -- even if on the face of it, it seems less practical.

I think two-pieces are even harder to get it right for special occasions. Don't drive yourself mad trying to find a suitable topper, just try on some summer dresses. and you still have plenty of time!

Phil, I think a dress will be more elegant for any wedding or future special events. That said, I love the three of Angie's recommendated ones, but you surely can find some others, to. I understand you want sleeves, but a sleeveless dress can be paired no brain with a topper, and look best of all, at least for me, that combo gives more confidence, too. For not too over the top dressy weddings I love linen shift dresses for summer, too!

Just chiming back in to say I would stick with a dress. Just a matter of personal preference, but it's something you can't go wrong with - I think they look better for weddings, some styles you can dress up or down, and you could always wear it as a skirt later.

Suz, I remember your search for the shell. Isn't that when you founf the David Meister dress - or maybe the Nicole Miller? A dress will definitely be easier and I have two on order. One is the Ted Baker floral Angie linked to. Another size showed up this morning, though I suspect it will be too small. The other is a different print but I believe the same dress as one of her linked suggestions.

Angie, I love the green of that Dobbin dress. It's a bit out of my budget though. I SO appreciate your offering suggestions. And with the number of members and posts flying around the forum I can't believe you even remembered suggesting tapering the skirt!

Maybe if I shift my focus maybe a blouse will appear out of the blue.

While the black top isn't great for a wedding, it looks fab with your pink skirt. I think everyone's given you great suggestions on dresses. The only piece of advice I can give is to keep on searching. Good luck!
