Affordable but Quality Denim

Hi guys,

I'm on the prowl for a new pair of jeans (dark wash, bootcut or straight leg, lowish rise, preferably), but I've been having trouble finding a brand that is well made (won't stretch out quickly), but isn't too expensive (over $50.00) for my college student budget. I'm in love with Gap's "sexy bootcut" jeans, but at $70.00, I don't know if I could justify that purchase Any suggestions? BTW, I'm a petite hourglass (5'4" - so I do usually have to buy regular length pants and then have them slightly hemmed) and usually a size 2.

Gap has been offering so many specials - like last Tuesday they gave you 25% off in-store when you mentioned their online discount - so I'd keep googling for Gap discounts and get the 'sexy bootcut' jeans for less. . . .

I buy premium denim off ebay in that price range. Go looking somewhere like Nordie's to try different brands on, and then see what you can find on ebay.

I would personally stay away from Gap, they tend to stretch out quite a bit. For excellent quality nothing beats premium denim. They are pricey, but can be found at great discounts.

For example, smartbargains.com always has good deals on premium denim. At size 2, you probably need a 26, right? Here is everything they currently have in that size:

My local Gap is having a sale every Wednesday during July ... one non-sale item for 40% off. In-store only. I received coupons for these sales when I made a recent purchase, so I don't know if you have to make a purchase to get the coupons, but it's worth asking about ...

Otherwise, Kut from the Kloth denim at Nordstrom gets good reviews and there are several offerings in the $50 price range. I have some denim bermuda shorts from Kut from the Kloth that I'm happy with, although you need to size down, as they do stretch.

Gap is my first choice for what you're describing. You can try Express but they stretch out more. I have also had some good luck with Land's End - they carry them at Sears and have a fabulous return policy if things don't work out.

I echo Anne's recommendation for Kut from Kloth. They are the best inexpensive jeans I've ever owned and have 2 more pair on order.
