Advice Please - Party Outfit

On December 10th, the Women's Hospital I work for will be holding it's annual Christmas Dinner & Dance fundraiser. It's a fabulous event and each year I've worn a fairly typical "party dress" (black, silver, black/white combo, etc.). I'd like to wear something different this year - something unique. I've been thinking about tuxedo pants with a dresssy blouse or sequined tank & jacket...

I would love to hear your suggestions and ideas - thanks!

Ooh, Shannon, a sequined tank with tuxedo pants sounds wonderful! A feminine tuxedo should be a good wardrobe classic, too.

That sounds lovely & really sophisticated. I'm also thinking about Christmas party wear - I was thinking maybe going down the vintage route but now you've inspired me. I'm now thinking wide legged trousers with dressy blouse & fitted tux style jacket. Jumpsuits (all-in-one top & bottoms) seem to be big this season over here but I'm wondering about the practicalities, especially after a couple of drinks?!!

Shannon, I love the idea of a dressy tux for you, especially if you have some wonderful funky footwear to go with it. It really would be a wardrobe classic and you could wear the jacket and pants separately later as well. I don't really know a good source for this kind of look, though.

You can't go wrong with a sophisticated tux outfit. I think a sequined top with a tux jacket and trousers, a nice heel and metallic accents sounds great.

That sounds fab. I have a vintage velvet double-breasted jacket that I love wearing with pants in place of a dress... Pictures please!

Oh thanks all - it's always a relief to know you're not heading in a completely wrong direction! Now to find the pieces...

Suz - that's what I was thinking too in terms of wearing the pieces separately later on. This gives me more options than a dress, and I agree Lynne - it seems like it would be a wardrobe classic.

So now here are more questions - do I go with color for the top or stick with classic black or white? Do I go with a black jacket with black pants, or a white jacket with black pants? And now Una's got me thinking about a velvet jacket....

I love this idea. I'd stick with traditional tux colours: black pants and jacket, white blouse. Then choose fabrications and styles which are feminine and/or glam.

Maybe a jet black necklace to mimic the vibe of a tie? Killer heels, for sure!

I like your idea for a tux like outfit... I like the sound of your previous year's outfits too. I always try to stay festive but fairly conservative for my office holiday parties.
