Advice on makeup brands

I'm in need of replacing some basic products (powder, foundation, blush, etc), and thought it might be time to get an update on makeup trends and make sure that I'm not caught in a makeup rut. Any recommendations on make-up lines that any of you ladies has really liked? I'm currently using Trish MacEvoy with a couple Laura Mercier products thrown in.

Well, I use Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer, which you've already tried. Do you have a Sephora near you? If I were you, I'd head out to a Sephora or a department store and try some things on. Get samples. It's nice to use something for a few days and really see whether it works or not before taking the plunge and paying for a full-size product.

Laura Mercier is my favorite dept store line with Bobbi Brown a close second.
MAC has fun items and lower prices, plus you can get more color if that is what you want.

Sephora is great but overwhelming if you don't knwo what you want imho.

Love Benefit "Hello Flawless" Powder foundation, which is great for the summer to my oily skin. On the winter I use Clinique "even better", foundation.

I use this blush, shade peach

I have a Bobbi Brown foundation which is great. I have also used Benefit liquid foundations in the past with good results.

I use a Benefit conceler, which you put on with a brush and I would highly recommend it.

If you want to have fun, but not spend too much money I would recommend e.l.f (www.eyeslipsface.com or .uk) I have so far eye shadow, lip sticks and gloss, a liquid that can be used on lips, eyes and as a blush and would recommend them all. Plus, most things either cost £1.50 (I think that it is $1.50 in the US) or £3.50 for the more expensive studio range. They often have free or reduced postage.

I agree with Ana, go to Sephora for a few hours and try everything on. I'm not loyal to one brand for anything.
I use Laura Mercier foundation, concealer, and transluscent powder
Smashbox, Benefit and Nars blush
Nars bronzer
MAC, Stila, Two Faced, Nars, etc eyeshadow
Stila eyeliner
MAC, Dior, and Stila mascara
MAC, Lancome, Nars, lip color
I prefer fewer but better products and these are the ones that work for me.

I have a bunch of different products from various companies: Prescriptives, Clinique, Benefit, Chanel, Nars (my favorite lipsticks are all Nars), Vincent Longo, MAC etc. I think a good starting point are those best of beauty type surveys done by beauty magazines such as InStyle & Allure. They sometimes list the best products by skin type and/or skin color. And then go to Sephora and play!
