Advice on layering

I'd like to wear a new open knit cobalt sweater with black pants to work tomorrow. Should I wear a black or white tank underneath? Black would be to match the pants: white would provide max contrast under the sweater.

I would choose black. I think a column of black under the sweater would look better.

I agree with Ceit. I would be inclined to layer the black tank to create that column of colour to keep it nice and streamlined. Sounds like a lovely combi, do we get to see a picture?

Hard to argue with the column of color idea, but black and white and cobalt is a great classic color combination, so if that's what you feel best in I say go for it!

I would personally wear the black tank so as not to interrupt the lines of the sweater with a colour change underneath. JMO

Either sounds good but you can't go wrong with a column of black. Maybe you could add a bit of white with accessories.

I vote black but I prefer low contrast looks.

I agree with Joy, either sounds good, but personally I would do the black. Like Lisa, I prefer a lower-contrast look.

I like the lower contrast column of color. What about the cobalt sweater, white tank and white trousers as a second use for the sweater?

I'd go for the black too, esp. as we're talking tanks. I feel a white tank could be too casual.
