Advice needed: colour to wear with dress?

Hi all,

I am in the middle of building a work wardrobe and am having the dilemma of trying to find colours that work with each other. I recently bought this dress:

And I'm wondering what colour and style of cardigan would work best with it? I was considering a white one - the JCrew Jackie cardigan maybe?

great dress. white would definitely work, but i think navy or ink blue would be great as well.

Great dress! White, navy or black cardigan would look good with it. You might want to add a touch of red (a bag maybe) too.

I think you could go one of two ways here. Either a white/cream/light coloured pattern cardigan to create a low contrast, tonal look or something with lots of drama and contrast. Red and blue would both work here as long as you chose them in the same slightly darker tones as the yellow of the dress. Or you could go a bit more "out there" and experiment with secondary colours. This might be a good time to pull out the colour wheel. I think any cardigan would need to be thin and fairly simple so it does not take away from the lovely clean lines of the dress.

If you're building a work wardrobe, maybe you are thinking about overall wardrobe style and color palettes for you and what pieces to create capsules in what colors will get you there. There are a lot of posts& discussions here on YLF and elsewhere with helpful tips.

I have a skirt that color and love wearing it with a very dark plum-colored top. I also like all shades of gray with it. Teal and berry colors work well, if you're into higher contrast.

I think white, navy, red and gray will all work well with it. I also like Liz's suggestions of dark plum and teal.

Lovely dress. I think a simple cropped cardigan would work well (the J Crew Jackie might do it or Boden makes a few with different necklines http://clothing.bodenusa.com/c.....20Cardigan). Lyn* often wears fit and flare dresses like that with boyfriend cardis for work, so check out her posts.

In the low-contrast family, do you look good in taupe or tan? I can imagine a topper in camel going with that acid yellow/green very well, if it suits you.
