Advice needed- Cocktail Attire....

Hello!!
I need some advice on attire for an upcoming Holiday party- cocktail attire… My biggest question is: nylons/ hose or bare legs??
Here is the background: the party is for my husband’s work (where daily dress is strictly suits black, gray and navy blue). We live in DC- it is expected to be in the upper 20’s this night. I am a country girl and before this year lived in blue jeans and boots, so I am new to fashion etiquette… it seems to me that no one here wears nylons, but it’s COLD here. I am pale skinned and not too comfortable with bare legs in winter. On the other hand, I have a new baby (only 5 lbs more to go) and do look forward to being dressed up and feeling sexy again- not a good combo with nylons unless a garter belt. Attached is a pic of the dress… any advice is appreciated! Also, I have a black bolero I will wear inside.

If your skin is really pale what about wearing some sheer black textured hose? there are some really fun small fishnets out there as well as patterns with polka dots or lace.

I don't think so - the hose are really sheer and look great with black evening shoes.

There's no way I'd go out in DC winter without some kind of hose! I think sheer black or very nude pantyhose are totally acceptable here. Have fun! The dress is beautiful!!

Hi amyd and welcome! I agree with the other ladies. It seems hose are coming back into fashion as long as you don't wear the suntan L'eggs of yesteryear! I have seen some really pretty sheer black hose with a suble diamond pattern that I really like. I don't think they'll make you look bottom heavy at all.

Good luck and enjoy a special evening (sans baby) with your hubby! The dress is just gorgeous!

If bare legs I had planned on shiny strappy heels (open toe). But it sounds like sheer black wins = black heels with silver embellishment, which will match the bolero too. Unless of course there are other suggestions! =) Either way, I have to buy them new, as post pregnancy all of my shoes are still too small.
I think no necklace and accessorize with only earrings, chunky bracelet and simple clutch.

Hello fellow dc resider. I would definitely wear hose since the temps have finally dropped. I'm not much of hose wearer but somehow I can't NOT wear something to cover my legs. Good luck and can't wait to see more photos later.

Ok, I'll be the voice of dissent. I live close to DC (western MD), and it's burr cold here, too, right now. But personally, I love the look of bare legs in a cocktail dress. (Which, btw, the one you chose is gorgeous.) I went bare-legged to both Hubby's company Christmas party and to a funeral this past weekend (bitter cold), and it was fine. I was only outdoors for a short period of time both times. Then again, I don't mind the cold...
