Adventures with "DRESSES" that are tunics. Or I have very long legs.

aka: Trying to Stray From Black Dresses

I bought three dresses that I thought would be cute to add to my work capsule (I'm on the building to the basics step of work capsule building), but I was torn as I already own a few sheath dresses and needed more tops.

LUCKILY (I think) these dresses are MUCH too short to be ever worn by me as a dress, so they will go into tunic/top section of my capsule! I haven't really had too much time to try and style these, but what do you think so far?

If the jeans and boots are too warm for the warmer weather that will eventually come, you can wear these with tights or with leggings. You will look adorable in them. Also given your young age, you could pull of wearing these short dresses on weekends (just not bare-legged to work, you're a doctor you command respect!)

I like the way you've styled all of them and the top in #9 looks great on you.

I love love love the polka dot in number 7. I can't believe that you lyn (you're tiny) are having this problem too! Maybe those dresses would be blouses on 5'8" me and I can only imagine what they would look like on some of our really tall ladies. I almost wrote a post about this today. I have a dress that seems like it should be long enough, but because I have so much rump when I sit it really gets almost racy-- yet, it is not short enough to look good as a tunic. Argh!

ROFL; I think I'd command ATTENTION if I wore these as dresses to work Maybe the wrong kind of attention (on my psych team, I'm the only girl ... lol, it's gonna be fun).

I definitely will try wearing some of these with opaque tights or leggings on weekends or days off, but even then I feel like I'm showing a little bit too much leg! Maybe that's why I'm still single ... haha.

I think I'll be keeping these items; the return policy is kinda iffy at F21 if you didn't order online (exchange only; the line currently is about 30 min in length). I will be returning the top in pic #9; it's reaaaaally hard to get in/out of!

I had a bad experience buying the bag (which is fabulous, BTW, and available in cream and black as well). I was carrying a bag from a lower-end retailer (Suzy Shier - with the top in #9) and the Sears lady offered me a bag to put over that bag because apparently I would not want to walk around with THAT bag... uh... okay?

They are lovely but not good to wear without leggings. I don't know where you live, but here in portugal it gets too hot for leggings, so I would try to look for longer dresses!

I live in the coldest armpit of Canada, and they never let medical students out into the world outside the air conditioned hospital, so I will legging them up all year round

lol, but I will try to find one or two dresses for a faboo summer patio dinner or something... (lol,l yeah right; I'll be on internal medicine this summer! BOO!)

You are long-legged indeed, and make great use out of converting too-short dresses to tunics! I especially love the combinations in pictures #6 and 8 - the way you layered over the dresses really makes it look like they are *supposed* to be that exact length. Also, I'm kind of envious of your purple cardigan. The color is gorgeous.

LOL; I really hope that people wear them with leggings - they are really really short to be worn with a bare leg; but I'm sure I'll see someone do it!

I do love my purple cardi. I also have it in brown; I missed out on the black and the navy ones though!

Gorgeous tunics, Lyn! I especially love the print in 5/6. Love how you've styled them all. (I've looked at dresses with DD at F21 and am always surprised at how short they are.)

I bought a top labeled "tunic" at F21 and compared it to a "dress" ... same length! HAHAHAHA.

I like to think that the F21 model must be really short-legged or something

I'm 5' 1" and most F21 dresses I've tried on hit about there on me too and I just don't understand. xD

When I saw the first picture, I wasn't too thrilled about the pants underneath but when you style it, it looks fantastic! I would say try tights/leggings if you can though because that'll lighten up the look for spring/summer a bit. Whenever I want to wear a dress but am worried about the cold (I think I'm a bit past showing skin now, lol) I always put on the tallest boots I can find. I find there's not a whole lot of skin/tight-shod leg showing even if the skirt is more or less indecent then. xD

I think the first one is my favorite; the bag, colours and print of the dress look super great together and look very urban/city chic. (:

BTW, I feel your pain as a fellow Canadian. Not in the armpit, but maybe in the arm? xD The same snow's been on the ground for two months. TWO MONTHS.

Too short? No way - they're just short enough! Assuming it ever gets warm again of course, here's hoping. It seems repetitive to say so, but I will anyway, you look fab.

Your outfits are wonderful. If you wanted to wear the first one as a dress, you could always add a black band along the bottom to lengthen the dress. Just be sure to find a black fabric in similar weight and care requirements.
