I finally caved and bought one of these. I've wanted one for years but I don't spend a lot of time in sports stores so I never see them!

Here's my question: this is the quintessential SOCCER JACKET here on the west coast. I don't play soccer. Neither of my kids play soccer (I tried -- for four years, in my boy's case! -- yet both of them eventually begged to do a different sport). Will I look like a doofus wearing one?

Well,I saw a picture of Olivia Palermo today in a track jacket and I do not think she has ever played a sport involving sweating in public. But i know what you mean -- sometimes when you get involved with iconic looks, you need to be careful.

Does it help that I'm athletic-looking? I'm not a bad athlete, and I do lots of outdoorsy sweaty things. I'm just not a soccer player.

Hah, I'm so in the weeds i never even think of gear- ish, sporty jackets as being " owned " by one sport!
So I'm not the expert. I would have hoped that any sporty jacket that fits well and comfortably and is suitable-- the right weight, fabric- could be used in sporty activities or active daily life.

Ok here is where I would wear that jacket:
- going for a walk
- going to and from the gym
- running errands or casual weekend outings
- on holiday in the evenings when it is cool
- bike riding
- watching sport
- around the house

I like it and find these types of items get heaps of wear, I have a pink sports hoodie that I wear every second or third day for one thing or another.

And if I was a student I would wear it to school too.

I like it a lot. No associations with anything in particular in my area -- just a sporty, casual jacket. I'd wear it with faded jeans, a tee, and black boots. But I like "sporty luxe" and casual sporty looks.

I would wear it in a casual rather than sporty way, like Janet suggests. These jackets, like the Adidas shell toe shoes have a very urban vibe to them, rather than sporty.

i wouldn't worry....i doubt most people wearing under armour are football players (UA's heritage), and i don't think most people wearing North Face even know what that stands for. Adidas is having a fashion moment, nothing wrong with going with it...

That is a very nice sporty-chic jacket. It will look fantastic over jeans. No, you will absolutely not look like a doofus. Regular non-soccer-playing folks wear them all the time around here... and look fab doing so.

Great buy. Like KiwiGal said, there are innumerable times and places to wear a jacket like this. I personally would never have associated it solely with soccer. I associate it with an active lifestyle.

I do not associate the jacket with soccer, only sporty lifestyle. I would wear it the way Janet suggests.

I agree with what others are saying. It looks like a really comfortable jacket, and you will have lots of opportunities to wear it casually. Around here, people wouldn't think anything of it. Would it be different on the West Coast?

Well I have this and wear it to the gym and when out walking. I think it's timeless and love it's retro vibe.

Another one who can't see a jacket like this associated just with soccer. I would advise not wearing shin pads out in public however, THAT may confuse people

My daughter got some great Addidas things in Quebec. She loves addidas and has the jacket. Still, it isn't something that I often see around this area. When we were in Portugal , it was jarring. Addidas everything , everywhere. On ALL nationalities : Italian, French, Portuguese, German.... I saw almost nothing else. And definitely no Lululemon, which is still de rigueur where we live. I love it.

Reminds me of the very similar version I had in HS. It was Royal blue with white stripes. Perfect for all my early morning swim practices. To me, this is gear.

I really like the triple stripe.
I used to associate this garment with soccer, but it's more of an all-purpose gear item now.
Adding to Sally's list, I would wear this to any kid's sporting event.
And I love Angie's set.

I don't think of it as a soccer jacket at all. I had something similar that I wore to tap class, so that's my association. Really, it's just a cute jacket. Wear it wherever!

Thanks so much guys! I am in love with my new jacket. I have decided I don't care if it's a "soccer" jacket (it really does have that association where I live, but from what you all say, it doesn't elsewhere). Besides the fact that the sleeves are a little long (always a problem for me), the jacket fits like it was made for me. I very much intend to wear it as street wear, not gear. It's polyester -- can't imagine wanting to run in it! It looks good unzipped over a white tee shirt and jeans. Now the question is, what shoes?
