Acrylic--how much is too much?

This sweater dress is almost perfect but for the acrylic.

Acrylic scares me because of the pilling. Every acrylic item I have ever owned has pilled badly within one wear and wash, but I don't remember the exact content breakdown. Is 50% going to pill badly? I know all knitwear will pill eventually, but I'd like to get at least a couple of seasons out of this since it has been so hard to find.

Maya, I have a wool/acrylic sweater dress (50/50) and it's held up pretty well. Granted, I've only worn it three times and laundered it only once...

I wish this weren't 100% acrylic, I think it would be funny for me to wear it as a science type...

Well, the sweater I got from there http://www.anntaylorloft.com/c.....pe=Regular was 30% wool / 70% acrylic and it pilled in one day of trying it on for size! But, I had the low armpit thing rubbing so that could be a factor - but still, one day!!

My experience with acrylic is that it pills badly and doesn't survive many washes. It loses dye and shape quickly. Maybe there is a better quality available. I try to avoid it.

I dislike acrylic intensely! I was actually surprised how good this blend feels...but like you I am cautious

I can't advise on %'s but would hand washing instead of machine washing help delay pilling? Or maybe a sweater stone would help remove the pills? I use one from Eddie Bauer on my cashmere sweaters.
