Acid-wash 80s green: why do I love these pants?

I had them bookmarked on Etsy but now they are sold. As I did the 80s once and didn't love the styles, I'm wondering WHAT is so appealing to me about these particular jeans? I think it's the way they are photographed and styled with the boots, and the slouchy look which makes them seem modern...

hum.. don't know.. the color is so ugly!
Maybe you can find a similar pair in a nice color!

I second Rute - an ugly color, looks dirty too me. And you usualy look very polished, so it's not the right look for you :).

I like the colour too, but not the style.

The color doesn't freak me out as much as the style does. I can't help but think of Jeri Blank, Amy Sedaris' character in Strangers with Candy. Sorry :).

I like the color, but not the style. Do you have anything in a similar color (or could you buy something in a similar color) that might help appease your appetite? Or is it the style that appeals to your more?

Hahaha! I knew you all would snap me back to reality. I think I just like the shape of them. Anyway, SYC and some other poor sap saved me from a big fashion faux pas. Plus, I can surely thrift something similar. I detest the acid-wash look in general. I really think the photography sucked me in!

I'm old enough to remember a children's TV program with a character called Mr. Greenjeans. That's what they reminded me of. However, I can understand the color attraction as I seem to have a thing for "dirty" bronze jeans. No clue why and it's not a color I use otherwise.

Er, Joy, I'm old enough to remember that too - Captain Kangaroo! Was that a nationwide show or just on the East coast? I don't remember Mr. Greenjeans in acid-wash though! Wasn't he in overalls?

I have pink and grey acid wash jeans with lacing at the waist from my high school days. They are fitted at the waist widen out and taper again at the ankle. They are sitting in the top shelf of my closet. I should post a pic of them.

I would actually like those if doing a sort of punk outfit with black. They remind me of the cut of Girbaud jeans back in the day, which were oddly flattering. I don't mind the style...they would be really unusual, more standout than dated or dowdy looking like so many 80s "mom jeans" would be today. It's a fine line, isn't it, between "cool and different," "so bad it's good" and "OMFG-awful!"

However, the one thing that WOULD have totally stopped me from buying these is the glowing butt. Not so fab there...

Yardshark, you are RIGHT! That is exactly it. Girbaud jeans DID have a great cut to them - I wish I had kept the pair I had, that were a nice soft faded denim!

LOL at glowing butt - one way to avoid being hit by a car in the dark...

Una, it was the Capt. Kangaroo show, wasn't it? My younger sister watched it. I think I'm visualizing incorrectly a puppet Howdy Doody who wore jeans often with a green checked shirt. If you have the attitude, you can wear glowing green jeans.

Joy, I remember Howdy Doody too! That was the red-haired freakish dude with the creepy marionette. Captain Kangaroo had a character named Mr. Greenjeans, though - I think. Now I'm confused. Where did you grow up?

ETA: I had to google it all. Howdy Doody WAS the marionette - shows how warped a kid memory can be! And Mr. Green Jeans here:

I grew up in the US in Nebraska. The really scary character for me was Claribelle the clown on Howdy Doody. I think it was a person dressed as a clown and not a Marionette like Howdy. Someone gave me a big Clarabell doll that became the villian in our games. Both shows must have been on the air for many years.
This video has an appearance by creepy Clarabell near the end and also is a great representation of what we wore as children in the 50's:

I think I saw that the guy who played Captain Kangaroo was also Claribelle the clown! Freaky!!! I am terrified of clowns so I don't think I'll watch your video, but I believe you wholeheartedly.
