Accessories 3 and new COS dress

Dear Fabbers,
Yesterday, I popped into a COS shop and by chance, found this black sweater dress. If anybody would tell me that I would buy a sweater dress, I would just say “never, not going to happen”. Until this one. I am not easy to please and I don’t look good in knitwear, but this dress is just out of this world amazing. It is oversized, so it effectively hides what needs to be hidden, and yet, there is structure and shape. I absolutely love this dress. It works as a great basis for so many accessories. It can be dressed up or down and worn to many occasions. If you are looking for a simple and versatile black sweater dress - this is really fab.
To work with my accessories challenge - I popped on a huge crystal glass safety pin, which I seldom wear, and silver chunky oxfords (Max @ Co). I think this would be a fun party outfit in colder environments. I stayed in today the whole day, so excuse my hair and no makeup. Unfortunately, the dress actually doesn’t photograph very well, therefore I post many pics so you could see some “movement”.
What do you guys think?

You are beyond cool in that outfit. I love the dress - you are right; it has the oversized vibe but still just enough structure to make it look really polished. And that pin - how cool is that? Fabulous. And have I mentioned lately how envious I am about your ability to absolutely glow in black?!?

Toban, the dress comes also in a kind of green/brown color, which I think might be nice on you.

Love the idea of a knit dress in that so very arty shape(LOVE it!!) and fits you very well indeed! Love the giant pin, too. But, I wouldbe more happy to see more of some your skin somewhere or a lighter color/pattern for easing up a bit that chunk of black. It may be only a personal preference and a need when looking at a steady pictie only and not meeting you IRL-when all colors and movements have real depths and shades- if you might know what I mean. But you can always try with tan sheers and a patterned bootie/shoe or scarf or topper? And I know you have some fab bags, too:-)).

Wow, that is a fantastic dress. It fits you perfectly. I like the slightly cropped sleeve, showing a little skin without sacrificing warmth. Your pin is so cool too. This is a fun challenge and it is a treat to see you post daily.

Black and bling really suits you. That dress is beautiful on you and I predict will be getting a lot of wear. Your metallic shoes and that incredible safety pin lighten and brighten the column of black. I just love this!

Re the pin - I actually do not know where it comes from - it was a gift from my mom and there is no brand. I like it a lot, but the use is limited because it is not so much for daily work outfits, and mainly since the pin's needle is rather thick and therefore not possible to use with woven fabrics or finer knits. I have used it with chunky knitted shawls and scarves and some sweaters (if I happen to have any such).

Lyn 67, I understand what you mean. I have tried the dress also with various scarves and it looks good with most of them. One idea was to use a red patterned longer scarf and a pair of red kitten heeled booties. It should work and break up the black more than what the pin does.

I think you look fab. Congratulations on your black sweater dress, which you wear so well. I had a similar one 30 years ago and remember it as very cozy, warm and versatile--it was easy to style in various ways, and I wore it at several different occasions. Now that I have silver hair, I find solid black turtlenecks a bit harsh against my complexion, but that's no problem for you with your striking dark hair and pretty complexion even without makeup.

Love your shoes, too.

I understand that because of its size and stiffness the pin might be difficult to wear on other items than a dress like this one or a wrap, but it is fun and dramatic and really dresses up the outfit. Maybe you could use it on a bag too? I recently purchased a large soft envelope bag (in velour) at a local Flying Tiger Copenhagen (I believe they have shops near you, too) and plan to dress it up with a brooch or two or three. Perhaps an idea for your large pin, too?

That is a truly fantastic dress on you! Sweater dresses are not my friend in the least little bit. But this is a really great one. Leave it to COS to make something that defies expectations in a flattering way!

We have several Flying Tiger Copenhagen shops around here, but honestly, I have not been there for ages (I usually ended up buying some “necessities” there before, Lol). The bag sounds so great - I love your idea of a few brooches on it. I am just going to have to check it out! What color did you get?

Oh wowzers, so glad you tried that on! It's awesome. I have a similar but different navy COS sweater dress that I feel the same way about... it's just loose enough.

And I'll be fighting Lisa and Janet on the way to that pin...

Love that dress and the giant pin. I have been looking for sweater dresses as more casual for winter than the usual dresses. This dress probably also shows off your scarf collection. The safety pin is very trendy as a way of signaling that you are a “safe” person to approach that will not belittle a marginalized person.

Katerina, my bag is royal blue. In the picture, I have placed four brooches loosely upon the bag, just to give you an idea. I suppose they could easily be replaced by one or two larger brooches. Don't know the actual size of your glamorous safety pin. However, the envelope bag is C4 size (able to room A4 sheets and/or a large tablet).

The bag was purchased in a hurry one and a half week ago, and I don't remember the exact prize, but it was inexpensive, like NOK 50,- or less. I think it came in one or two other colours, too. I imagine that I will want to bring it as an extra bag in my suitcase sometimes when travelling. And last weekend I used it (without brooches) at an informal party, where it got several positive comments.

Joy, interesting explanation of what the safety pin might symbolize nowadays. I didn't know it was trendy (except in grunge groups, starting in the 1970's ... ).
