I had to find a replacement when my favourite bra was discontinued. I was quite fortunate that it was a quiet shopping day and there was a bra fitter on hand the day I went to the department store. This lead to my first bra fitting (and yes, I was wearing the wrong size).

The kind woman helped me find my new favourite bra, but also suggested that I invest in a 'bra wardrobe' claiming that different styles of bras worked better under different styles of clothing.

My favourite low profile unlined Wonderbra is fine under structured garments and layers, but not so good under sweaters and t-shirts, for which I now have a couple of moulded Calvin Klein numbers. For low cut necklines, there is a spiffy little Triumph balconet style.

There is also the ubiquitous compression garment for running and workouts!

The decision which bra to wear is now as much a part of my dressing ritual as which shoes to wear.

Well, I currently only own 3. I still nurse my DD a couple of times a day, so I am not willing to invest in a bra wardrobe yet. Really, just what I need right now as my size will likely change when I am done nursing. We are also unsure of if we want a second baby, so I will wait to make the investment after we have that all sorted.

I find my bras cost between $65-$140 so I do take really good care of the ones I have. Still, at my size, I usually need to replace them every 6-12 months.

99% of the time, I wear the same model of bra. I found the perfect style, a Calvin Klein underwire one that comes in nude and black, is perfectly smooth, has a nice shape, and (importantly for me) doesn't have molded cups. I can't function without several t-shirt bras, since I often wear a clingy tee shirt as my base layer and lace bras leave bumps under a tight shirt. Currently I have three black ones and one nude one, and I really could use a second nude one. Although every department store in the city seems to stock that model, nobody has one in my size! Grr.

I do have a couple of pretty bras with lace that have molded cups, and I never wear the darned things. I don't think I ever wear anything low-cut enough to require a balconet style. So currently, I have six bras, two of which are used simply for decoration in my closet.

Oh wait, I also have a sports bra.

I have a whole schwack load of bras - I think the best ones though, are the padded Ralph Lauren kind - I've been stocking up on them at Winners whenever I see them. So far, I have two of these "great" bras.

The only problem is that they set off the airport metal detectors. Really attractive.

My current "wardrobe" consists of a nude T-shirt bra, and the same one in plum (plain, yet pretty, and functions like black). I also have a black plunge T-shirt bra with convertible straps. And an unlined fuchsia lace balconette style, along with an unlined black one that has partial lace cups. I would like a strapless, too.

Oh - and I have several workout models!

This is after a long search for bras in my size, which is not easy to find in my city. You would think it would be easy for the small of boob to find bras, but alas, that is NOT the case. At least not if they are not truly petite and not an A cup but not a DD cup, either.

I had a scare recently when told my workhorse bra which is a Donna Karan with smooth molded cups was discontinued. I found it online at "A Brief Affair" and while it took a long time I did eventually get the order. Lovely quality and last a long time. I got 3!

My bra wardrobe is rounded out with a balconnet that can be worn strapless, a convertible, sports bras and a beautiful Lejaby (sadly they are now out of business) one that is embroidered so cannot be worn under clothing that requires a smooth finish. I will be done when I find the black lace one :). The convertible is a new addition and a useful one I think. I like a halter or racer back but not the straps showing.

You probably know this but bras last longer if you do not wear them two days in a row but let the lycra "relax".

Lyn - it's bad enough going thru security but having your bra "go off". Agh! That is awful.

I have never found a particular bra style that inspired any great loyalty -- I just buy whatever I find when my old ones bite the dust! Usually I have one in beige, white, and black, sometimes a fun color or pattern. I rarely wear anything that calls for a special shape or a strapless bra, but I do have a couple of them.
