Rayon is a man made fabric, but has been around since the 1940's. There was a lot less

frigid AC back then and none in cars, so I am thinking it is ok for hot. Now I am seeing it in combination with linen and cotton. Is defeating the purpose of the linen and cotton? I just bought a linen rayon lite pink peasant top to go with my print skirt (photo 1) for a hot weather outfit. The skirt has polyester in it but fuller and airy so I think it will work. I have other 100% cotton t's to wear with the skirt, but this one feels so lite and ariy. No photo of the top yet. I will post some travel capsules soon as I get to packing.

This top, #2, from macys came today is cotton and rayon. If it works with hotter weather it will go with 3 pairs of various length linen and 100% cotton bottoms.

How does the top look? The pieces look cute in the pics.

I live in a hot climate and will wear most fabrics year round. More judicious if I'm going to be strictly outdoors. I have a hard time wearing linen blends as I usually find them too scratchy.

I guess it depends on how hot is hot and how used to the heat you are. For me, it's sweater weather to at least 75F.

I think rayon is mixed. Some rayons are high quality and they really improve the drape of other fabrics when in a blend. Pure rayon usually needs ironing -- and a lot of it.

I don't think it defeats the purpose of linen and cotton. It's not as breathable as either of those, but still has some breathability, and it really has a lovely fluidity to it that can make cotton or linen feel softer.

I like rayon in hot weather; it's true that some are better quality and more breathable than others. A cotton/rayon blend sounds like it could be lovely! But probably fairly wrinkly

I have had good luck with rayon in hot and humid weather...but bad luck with washing it. Rayon can shrink, and it does get very wrinkled in the wash. If you can be careful and deal with that, I think wearing it is pretty nice.

Rayon is cellulose (plant) fiber that has been chemically processed. As such it still retains a lot of the qualities of plant fibers e.g. breathability and absorbency. I think the bad rap poor quality rayon gets is because it can be prone to shrinkage and wrinkling. But in terms of comfort it's right up there with other plant fibers.

For the record, viscose, modal, and tencel/lyocell are all made in a similar manner to Rayon.

I like all of the fibers Diana listed for the heat, especially as wovens, though rayon and viscose sometimes need vigilant care to avoid shrinkage. Also these seem a little more readily available than cotton.

I like rayon and it's close relatives for hot weather but always hand wash or gentle cycle in the machine and air dry. Usually ironing is necessary.

I quite like rayon for hot weather. I have an old Target kimono style dress that is 100% rayon, and I love it for hot days. It also washes up beautifully and never needs ironing (though some of my other rayon pieces seem to need it.) It would probably be lovely in a cotton/linen blend.
